I'm down to my last 10 dollars. Got laid off in May. Unemployment hasn't compensated me. No one will hire me because of my age. Can't fully retire for another year. I have to move out of where I am by October. I just keep praying for a miracle. I'm determined to believe that God is going to make this situation better. Does anyone know of any jobs where I don't have to be on my feet all day? I've been an administrative assistant my whole life. I can type 70 wpm, and know Microsoft office.

  1. Be on time for your interview. GPS the location ahead of time. You may even want to do a test drive the day before.
  2. Research the company you are interviewing with. The more you learn about the company and what they do the better prepared you will be.
  3. Dress professional. No jeans, sneakers, etc. Wear a suit or a nice skirt and blouse. No jeans, sneakers or sandals. If you don't have anything to wear borrow from a friend.
  4. Bring a copy of your resume. Yes, you may have sent it to them, but sometimes they won't have it in front of them.
  5. Be prepared to take a skills assessment test. This may include a typing test. Review basic skills ahead of time.
  6. Shake the interviews hand if they extend their hand. Make eye contact and pay attention. Speak clearly and load enough for the interviewer to hear you.
  7. Keep your answers short. Practice answering questions ahead of time with a friend.
  8. Always be positive. Even if you didn't like your last job explain you are looking for a better opportunity. Don't bad mouth your previous employer or company.
  9. Be prepared with references. Yes, they will ask.
  10. Smile and be confident.

The pay is not the greatest, the therapists are amazing, the paid holidays are great...too many "bosses". I loved my job there. But they don't care how dedicated you are if they feel the need to get rid of you..they will. As a right to fire state, there's nothing you can do about it and they know it.

Although I have had extensive experience, at a high level (and salary), I don't think employers understand why I want an administrative job. My husband is in a nursing home, and I have a great need to supplement our income.

Hi all! My company is currently trying to fill in a couple of administrative positions. We are small environmental company (check out our web www.ctsiweb.com). If you live in NYC, are mature, responsible, loyal, with positive attitude, energetic, and have 2 yrs of experience as an admin (construction industry is a plus) email me at justyna@ctsiweb.com. I am an office manager and will train and oversee your work. :)
