Here are five strategies that might help make your workday more bearable:
Create a Comfortable Work Environment: Personalize your workspace to make it more enjoyable. Add items that bring you joy, such as plants, photos, or inspirational quotes. A pleasant and comfortable environment can have a significant impact on your mood and productivity.
Set Small Goals: Break your tasks into smaller, manageable goals. This can help you focus on immediate tasks and give you a sense of accomplishment as you complete each one. Celebrate those small wins!
Take Regular Breaks: Step away from your desk periodically to clear your mind. Take a short walk, stretch, or simply relax for a few minutes. These breaks can help refresh your mind and reduce stress.
Find Meaning in Your Work: Look for aspects of your job that align with your values or interests. It might be the relationships you build with colleagues or the skills you’re developing. Finding purpose in your work can make it more fulfilling.
Develop New Skills: Take advantage of any training or development opportunities your company offers. Learning new skills can make your job more interesting and might even open up new career opportunities.
Remember, it’s also important to assess your long-term career goals. If you find that your current job isn’t a good fit despite these efforts, it might be worth exploring other opportunities that align better with your passions and strengths. #AWU #disability #jobs

With the new year coming up, many states and regions will be updating their minimum wage standards. With inflation, and the general cost of living rising amidst record income disparity, I thought I'd revisit the history and criticism of the federal and state minimum wage laws.
Early in my career, I worked various jobs that paid the state minimum wage, and it was pretty hard to get by. Especially in Los Angeles, California, which is one of the most expensive cities to live in. So, any news of a higher minimum wage is great news to me. Anything that helps the working class is a step in the right direction, in my opinion.
However, there are some critics of the federal minimum wage in general, and some of its specifics and effects. It's interesting to see the various opinions on the matter. I found an informative article by Encyclopedia Britannica that outlines the history and thought on the matter here:
https://www.britannica.com/procon/minimum-wage-debate
The article includes a great section on the pro and con arguments surrounding the minimum wage. Be sure to click the "Pros" and "Cons" section on the table of contents column.
Some interesting takeaways include the following points:
As of 2013, polls show that 50% of small business owners are opposed to rising the federal minimum wage to $9.50/hour.
As of 2022, 70% of Americans supported raising the federal minimum wage to $10/hour.
On average, a full-time worker needs to earn an hourly wage of $21.25 to afford a modest one-bedroom rental home in the U.S.
In any case, good luck out there, fellow Jobcasers!
The hardest part for me is people who aren't that willing to chat. So, when that happens I do my best to find out something they enjoy, like their kids, grandkids, music, or maybe animals or food. Then we have a base to develop a relationship from much more comfortably.
