Job Fairs and Hiring Events are happening all over the country this time of year. This could be the only opportunity you get to meet face to face with a hiring managers so try not to procrastinate and let a hiring event pass you by without attending. Here’s a few Big Up’s before you go...

Set-Up -----> prep online before the event or get a floor plan at the entrance and identify where the Top, Mid, and Low level companies that meet your interest are located.

Warm-Up -----> start off with a couple of the Low level companies as practice run and warm up your pitch until you feel a fluid ability to articulate what you want and what makes you the best candidate for the job.

Follow-Up -----> ask for business cards, emails, or direct contact numbers from everyone you talk to and follow-up with a Thank you message.

One more thing … think of these events as an appointment to talk directly with people who can open a door for you to participate in a hiring process that may lead to a new job if you’re able to make an impression worth remembering. So, prepare to Be Memorable!

Contact me if you have any questions and remember to share your Job Fair experience with the Community after you attend.

A new study confirms ageism hiring practices happening in the application and hiring process. 40,000 identical resumes, except for age, were sent out to thousands of real jobs. Results showed that the employer call back rate for middle age to older applicants was dramatically lower than younger applicants. Just because the job description doesn’t specify “those over a certain age need not apply” doesn’t mean companies haven’t found a loophole in the law to weed out older applicants. Try to remove or bury dates from your resume if you’re not getting any interview call backs from employers and see that improves your job search.
