I am haunted by my criminal past, and it is difficult to get hired. My criminal record is not severe, and is 15 years old.

Okay 1 and a half years ago I was arrested for trying to sell drugs. I was released that same day but later that very next day I went to the place I use to sell drugs just to tell my best friend I don't want that life I am going back to my lame homebody life. When I arrived my best friend and her guy was arguing about my friend being a bad girl friend so I trued to calm things down by inviting my friend boyfriend to come talk to me in his car. So we got in and he tried to drive away but before he could we heard yelling and saw guns. It was the police saying we need to put our hands up. We listened and they took us out. They searched the vehicle and found 12 pills and 2 pounds of marijuana. Remind you I never knew any of this, I spent 2 months in the county until being forced to take 2 years probation. The young man got nothing and he had a criminal record thats pages long yet I got more punished and I did nothing wrong. Now I'm on probation, I can't get a job. Nobody trust me and in employers eyes I'm a risk all because I'm a "felon". Before all of this I worked and attended college. So I ask of you guys what should I do? Please Please Please don't judge me

I am not a lawyer, but there is a way to rectify this legal dilemmas/ so called misdemeanor or felony charges against (you/ someone).

First, gather all of your important legal documents. Make sure that you organize everything.

Second, try contacting your County Office, American Bar Association/ Law Library. Also try contacting your Main Local Library, ask the front desk clerk if there is a lawyer available and find out what day and time that you can speak to that attorney. This is a Licensed Volunteered Attorney. Ask the lawyer " how to sealed or remove your record (it is better that you choose the most critical charges against you). "

There is also a self-help, the school of law will be able to assist you.

Third, try to Google the Legal Aide Society. Contact them, then proceed your case.

Note: Some is free, other is for a minimal fees

Best of luck, and God bless.

How far back do employers go on a felony driving w/license suspended charge...,although being misdemeanor charges...two or more of these misdemeanors upgrade to a felony...should this be held against you by the employer seeing that it's almost10 years since the conviction?

Let me clear up something, the difference between a VICTIM and CRIMINAL:

VICTIM..a person harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or other event or action, or a person who is tricked or duped.

CRIMINAL..person who has committed a crime.

Which brings me to this. I am labeled as both. I am a VICTIM to DV and I've taken the liberties to help other men and women overcome the wounds of DV by becoming an Ambassador, however I am also a CRIMINAL, because I chose to protect myself from my assualtant, who in the eyes of law committed a crime towards me, and now I'm less of a woman because I CHOSE to PROTECT myself when the LAW was NOT there to help me.

My point to all of this, so many people can have a down right enjoyable conversation, and give me their kids to keep when not around, I can be trusted with a bank of you left me with it, but I cannot get a job because I am a CRIMINAL. Many of you have no clue as to how hard of a walk it is for someone of my stature to maintain, just basic life. No offense to those that work in retail or food services, but I've vested a lot of time, effort and sacrifice to get where I am today, and I'm still looked at by the unknown as a threat.

So tell me, are you still looking at all criminals the same, or are many of you that hypocritical to the point you allow others and paper to chose who you'll speak to and who you won't?

Think on that and get back with me, hell I fear those that aren't criminals than I do those that are a criminal.
