Been at my job this will be the third year. The owner of the company last year asked employees to help him put a new roof on his house . It was voluntary. He wanted people to work for free on the weekends. I thought this was very wrong being as he is wealthy owns the company and other reasons. He belittles men in front of others and has an attitude of no one works as hard as him or can do anything right. Mind you we work 50 hour weeks hard physical labor and make him and his company a lot of money. They rehired someone who stole from the company and all employees know that. They also gave that person a raise so they wouldnt file for work mans comp later in the year. There are a lot of dishonest business practices to make more money. Also they do not do anything if told about employees stealing and being dangerous or a liability. What do I do?

I got fired after 5 years with having 5 years of reviews that exceeded expectations just because what I can only assume is the new boss of just 4months decided he didn’t like me. Excuse was my bad attitude. Morgage, kid, wife you know. Dad passed away nephew took own life I feel down and out. What do you do.

It's Team work One Lowes across the country we all working toward one mission everyone from the top to the bottom

I am looking for a full time position as a teacher. Still trying to find the right fit. I was very disappointed in my last teaching position. I worked really hard. I was part time and hoped to be full time. My principal targeted me and began finding fault with everything I did. I was laid off because enrollment was low but I don't think that is why. She did not tell me what it was I was doing wrong and by the time she expressed any of this it was too late to do anything about it. I would love to work in a school where the administration actually has conversations with you about your performance. I find this all the time. If you don't tell me what I am doing wrong then how can I fix it.

I had been working in public health since 1990 . My work worked in coordination with public health programs inside the area as a city or group of cities. The Public Health Department had several types of health care centers. The biggest is a hospital then it's Cesamo (health care center with physicians) and Cesar ( health care with only nurses). The organization maintains a volunteer community, once a month they go to the closest health care department to give information about diseases (emerging and endemic in the community) in their community. As well as about babies that were born, or died, malnourished children, sanitary information (water, water disposal, air pollution, animal control). As a coordinator I had the opportunity to participate in the first investigation of Chagas disease (endemic in some areaz), leptosipirosis, cholera, mumps, dengue, and several others diseases found in the communities. Besides as doctor at the hospital, I had the chance to work with maternity mortality, infection nosocomia, and pediatric cancer. As the coordinator I had the opportunity to take part in the inaugural ceremony of a clinic for integral care of patients with VIH/AIDS which was funded by Fund Global which helped with antiretrovirals treatment, health education, and infraestrutral founds. A few years ago the department of health start a new organization with international funds ( BID and others ) they help self administration in cities of groups to increase care for the children and women. They also create a delivery room that takes in women and refers the ones that had complications during labor. I could see an improvement in the way they treated their patients (pregnant woman and children before 2 years.) I have a lot more to talk about my work there. If you interested, please let me know.

I ended up retiring at a young age because I couldn't cope with my job. I was always getting warnings and working my butt off but just not being good enough. I'd wake up with my stomach churning and I just couldn't deal with it anymore. I think my employer really wanted me to leave. The problem is that I've had to take any job because I needed an income. I accepted a lot of jobs that I hated. I've been working in insurance since 1984 and I hate insurance. Insurance and I don't get along--it is not a good fit. I was interested in fundraising or being an administrative assistant--in planning and coordinating activities. I was not interested in being in the back working with details and trying to get it done in a short period of time. I'd go to employment agencies and tell them what I wanted and lo and behold I'd get placed with some insurance company. My resume shows that I have experience with insurance and details--it doesn't show that I really stunk. A lot of it is my fault. I should have followed my gut and studied elementary education but at the time there were tons of teachers. Instead I studied mass communications and when I was a senior I found out that I would have a very difficult time getting work. If I did I could forget about social life which is important to me. When I came out of college I had no skills. Over the years I have gone to night school to gain skills but I still got stuck in insurance. I learned to be a word processing operator and was interested in working for an engineering or architectural firm or an aerospace firm--but no I ended up in insurance. I had that in my job history and I asked the employment companies to please not send me to insurance. I was sent to a state office that I was told dealt with retirement but I didn't do retirement. They had a subsidiary and guess what--it was a place where we processed insurance claims. I look back and I see I was stupid to accept something I didn't like. I was stupid not to realize that mass communications would not be a lucrative field for me and I should have realized that the hours would prevent me from the social life that I so much need. I can't believe how stupid I was.

This depends on how well you handle stress for me the busy time is the fun times but as with all jobs I would say bout %80of people can't handle the full house times so there is a high turnover rate there and that goes with all titles there all around other than managers and co managers but it indeed takes a special breed to do what they do.other than the full house times I've seen a lot of people make it thru the day pretty happy.

When researching teaching positions between elementary, middle, and high school, you might realize that there is a choice to work at either a private school or a public school. Is there a difference between public and private school when it comes to teaching? For example, do you get paid more for working at a public school or private? Is the behavior of the kids different? What about city versus suburbs? I’m just wondering what it is like to work at each type of school. Thanks!

I am only nineteen and have not had many jobs yet, but I saw an article that said there is scientific evidence that people are happier and more efficient in their work in a happier environment...even the color of the walls matters. My previous conception of working was that you clock in at 9 and out at 5 and environment doesn’t matter, but I’m slowly realizing the importance of a happy workplace. We spend so many hours of our lives in these offices, shouldn’t we enjoy it? I was wondering if you (other jobcasers) are happy at your job, and if so, why? What makes it so enjoyable or unenjoyable? Is it the personality of coworkers or the appearance of the building?

Company culture is important. It can be the difference between hating or loving your job. A company with great culture is going to be excited to tell you all about it, but one with not-so-great culture will likely dodge your question.
So how do I know what the REAL company culture is?
Ask them! Here are a few sample questions to use during your interviews:
1. What is your favorite thing about working here?
This makes them have to really think about their own experience and what they value about their job. If the company has great employee perks and benefits, you’ll likely find out about them.
2. Are there activities for employees outside of work?
If a company offers activities outside of work to promote team-building, chances are they know the value of their employees. If you’re moving to a new area for work, it’s also a good way to meet people and discover the area!
3. How long have you been with the company?
When a company is constantly having to rehire people, it can tell you that they don’t value their employees and they probably don’t have a great employee culture. You should use your best judgement though, as sometimes you will interview at a great company with someone who is rather new!
