I have worked for the YMCA before as the Director of the Summer Sports at Lakeview Park in Frankfort, KY. I also worked for them for terms as a Fall and Winter Sports instructor. I wanted to apply for the Director of the whole organization in Frankfort when the position came open two times after I left to finish my education in 2006. There is an understood/unspoken rule with the YMCA that "if you were not a member of the YMCA or grew up in the "system, " and you want a higher position than the ones I previously held. Pardon my rudeness but you "S____ out of Luck," because you are an "outsider". I did a great job for them in all three of my positions. The YMCA in Frankfort has a big problem with keeping their Directors. The position is open again, I would apply for it but, I am in China and honestly they would not hire me also because I am a Woman. AS a mother I had my son there in their after school program and summer camp Program. Most of their staff members are not" qualified" to work there. Just kids out of High school most of them. My son was push in the gym and broke his wrist in six places and they told, "him he was not hurt" and did not call me. Finally after much protest and crying, they finally listened to Thomas and called me, three hours after the accident had happened. I was very mad and when I saw him I knew it was broken and broken bad. I have been trained as an EMT and I know when a student/kid is hurt even if it is a minor or a much serious thing. I pulled him out of the program. He hates sports any way. So my advice to you to look closely into their inter workings of the YMCA, discrimination is wrong on so many levels.
