A while back I was unemployed and broke and struggling after my former employer went under but I ended up becoming a manager at Dollar General. I feel like they really took a chance on me. It was up to me to learn a whole new system but I got a good rep with my store and even though managing a store can sometimes be tough I got the hang of it. After a while I’m now on track to move up to the district level. I always will remember Dollar General as where I turned around that awful rut.

I work at Dollar General and I was in the parking lot doing a cart run and picking up trash when I saw an elderly woman who looked VERY lost. I asked her what her name was but she didn't speak to me. It was very hot outside and she looked like she had been in the sun to long so I ran back in and grabbed my manager. She helped me get the woman into our store and gave her some water. We contacted her in case of emergency person which was her daughter and when she got there she kept hugging me. Her mom has memory loss and got out of the house somehow and walked for miles. I was happy to help out and hope someone would do that for my grams.

I took the job too seriously and worked so hard like I was getting $20 an hour when I was only getting $9. When I realized I was doing this, killing myself..it was too late and it was expected of me.

Do what your paid to do. Dont kill yourself lifting and stooping and dont stress yourself out for min wage. If they dont cover you with insurance and if they dont pay you enough to get a doctor, take measures to look after your mental and physical wellbeing yourself. Take the job lightly and work according to your payrate.
