I have been reading all of the comments, in which they are excellent pointers; However, Temps, Colleagues, and Seasonal workers, can do the ten years job history and/or experience. As this will mostly apply to government agencies jobs. They target hard working and concise workers. They DO NOT want blank years. they want to see that in ten years you were up and about.
For anyone whom has ten or more years of experience your resume should not be done Chronological (focuses on work experience) to avoid all dates. Instead do the Functional, (focuses on your strengths and skills). This is where you will sell yourself as the finest product, but keep it real. For others there is the Combination resume, this one includes both, (Experiences and Skills).
Don't get intimidated by your aged experience. If an employer does not appreciates your years of knowledge than is a job not worth having. Be positive, concise, confident and let them know that you are the person dedicated to do an Excellent job. Good Luck to Everyone!!!

My resume is filled with over 15 years of experience in manufacturing, but no one wants to hire me. How is it possible that my years of experience is now frowned upon.

Years ago the more experience the better. Employers preferred someone older with the most experience. It's totally the opposite in today's job market, Employers don't want to see 20 years experience on your resume. Most get deleted when they see that and this is why. First it indicates that you are older at least in your 40's. With many years experience you will expect high or at least decent pay and benefits. Last they figure they probably won't be able to get you to do things the way they want because you've been doing them a certain way for so many years. I had applied at a company named Aerotech in CA back in 2006 and was interviewed by two snobby young guys in their late 20's. The one interviewer told me they prefer to hire younger people with just a few years experience that are not set in their ways of doing things. They want to be able to train them in the way they want things done not how they have been doing it which may be the wrong way. Needless to say I wasn't hired at Aerotech. After that happened I took some of the experience off my resume and then got a few interviews but when I went to the interviews and they saw I was in my late 40's the interview was basically over. Fact is all these G-damn employers are ONLY looking for people ages 20 to 30 now because they know the true amount of unemployed is massive, 4 times the BS Collecting Benefits Only rate our corrupt as Hell government tries to claim to make themselves look good

Try being 70 years of age with 10 years pediatric nursing experience and get a job in the child care industry.Or trying to get a job as an aide with 17 years home health experience. Is it the age? I hope not.I see discrimination here if it is an age thing. It certainly can not be an experience thing

Why won't companies hire and search out Veterans and pay more for their experience? As soon as Disabled Veteran is mentioned companies shy away and I know this is true I have been actively seeking and have College degree and experience in leadership (in fact I am 20+ year military retiree) plus I attended a tech school for Electric and HVAC tech but the management jobs go to the young and inexperienced and because we are Vets we must have the plague but the job will go to the young vet first

Astonished and frustrated. I worked for a supermarket company for 9 years as a manager and I'm fired because my position disappears in the company and invent another similar with another name to pay less and give it to a person almost inexperienced and does not speak English. It's amazing what companies do to pay less. I applied for many companies and had several interviews and never contact you to give you any information and qualify or not. In the end you see people working in positions with no experience and very unprofessional, in an interview with a district manager the man was falling asleep in the middle of the interview. The business world is incredible ... it's very sad.

in some places , they seek youngsters...i thought there was no age discrimination! most places look to hire teenagers, and work with their school schedules, and cuz they don't have to pay them as much as an adult requires for bills and family ! when i am available all days to work , with only one child, and a fulltime grandma to baby sit! ugh, i may not be young however i am well experienced in my retail work..Just as hard of a worker , nice to people, fast learner .. WHATEVER!

You ve been in transportation safety for 42 years, and recently found myself looking for a new job in the safety field. I have various certifications and 4 year degree. I've been told I interview well, but still no offers. One would think spending a life time doing what you love many contacts and try networking and to no avail. Now I find that I'm over qualified which really is age discrimination and difficult to prove. I believe it's a cop out because they want a life time of experience and you answer all the criteria, but they want to pay entry level money. I was always brought up to hire those with OJT (on the job training) which is more applicable than a degree in real life. What and or how does a person with experience and years find that job. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hello All, I have a concern. I am a convicted felon for a crime that I committed in the late 90's that's still a problem for me today. My career goals and life have changed drastically, however in the eyes of society my past is always coming to haunt me and prevent me from advancing in my career. I have far more than given back to society, and I am brutally honest with all I come in connection with, simply to show credibility, growth, and advancement. During the past 20+ years, I've explained, I've attended many programs designed to assist felons and I have also taken time out to get my Bachelor's degree, and currently working towards my Master's degree in Business Management and Marketing. My biggest issues currently, is my skills over qualify me lower paying jobs, and my background prevents me from getting into my related field of interest. No, I cannot gain an espungment of my record because the crime was a violent crime, one of domestic violence, for which today, I am now an Ambassador of DV. No I am by far violent, and I've spent years explaining myself to the point I am tired of explaining. My life has been at a stand still as far as employment is concerned, and my ambitions are going unnoticed, because society wants see me as I am written on paper. I've excelled in all areas, I've become a benefactor in many other lives, and I have shown society, that the rhetoric of ones past is just that...THE PAST.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, how can I overcome this, who is willing to give me opportunity, and am I to continue excelling in my education and not utilize the knowledge I've acquired. I am asking and seeking help from the public as to which direction to go and who is willing to give me the chance to show that what one reads on paper is NOT who I am or ever have been.

Thanks in advance for any support!
