On paper no, in practice results will vary. Every person has some level of unconscious bias towards those who remind us of ourselves and people we find attractive. Admitting this is the first step in fighting against it.

That being said, it is not the end-all-be-all of hiring, not by a long shot. It’s always best practice to show up an interview looking clean and neat. It portrays to the interviewer that the meeting is important to you. First impressions are very important, and it’s something to be cognizant of.
