I went to school for my Associates Degree in (Graphic Design) the school I went to was good but I really didn't get in the needy greedy with with the program because of other classes I didn't really need but had to take. Me myself I believe I'm a good designer not the best but I have enough skill to be dangerous. After I graduated from school I applied to different companies and shops for design but all I was getting was ( you need a bachelor degree, or higher to get this job) the only place that took me in was world's of fun sign shop. I'm blessed I had the experience to work there and learn more. Basically what I'm saying is that I understand that most jobs want the best with skills but sometimes the people they look over is the people who could be a great access to the company. Sometimes you just got to give people a chance who is willing to learn and work hard. Just because we don't have higher degrees doesn't mean we can't be trained and become great.
I work at a supermarket but I'm trying to transition into an entry level graphic design job. I've had no luck and I'm having a hard time standing out, especially since I've never held a job in graphic design before. I have a certificate, but no degree. Sometimes I feel like these employers discriminate against anyone without a degree. What could I do to stand out to employers more?
I am looking for a career in the graphic design field. I have two and a half years experience as a proofreader for a local printing company. My education consists of a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Design, Animation and Game Design from Kent State University and an Associate of Arts in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I have received awards for my artwork and am looking for a job that gives me structure for my creativity.
