"Job Description Buzzwords Alert"
If you see the words "We're Like a Family" in the job description, what out! Emotional Manipulation Alert!
Possible Translation? The Employer will guilt trip you into working more for free. When a company says this, it could mean that they expect you to sacrifice personal boundaries, answer emails at 10 PM, and put up with low pay because “we care about each other.” A job is a job and not your second family. If they have “family” in their pitch, you should think twice and mabe just run for the hills. #AWU #disability #jobs

Longer Job Search for Out-of-Work Americans
• Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals that unemployed Americans are experiencing extended waits to secure new employment.
• The report highlights a significant increase in the time it takes for many out-of-work individuals to find new jobs.
• While the exact causes are being analyzed, the prolonged job search presents challenges for those seeking re-employment.
So IMHO this is a time to double down with your Job Search. Be specific in your applications. Apply to jobs where you meet all the qualifications, jobs where you meet most qualifications, and jobs where you meet a few qualifications. Tailor your applications to the specific position. That means tweaking your resumes and cover letters for each job. This isn’t a time to use the same resume for each you you apply to.
Keep at it and stay strong. #AWU #disability #jobs

"Job Search Tip"
The Grass isn't Always Greener on the other side!
According to the Wall Street Journal it used to pay to switch jobs to boost your salary. Now not so much.
The salary difference between those who stay in their roles and those who change jobs has collapsed to its lowest level in 10 years, according to the latest federal data.
Job stayers increased their wages by about 4.6% in January and February. Meanwhile, those who switched jobs received only slightly more at 4.8%. That gap has narrowed considerably since the start of 2023, when job switchers could fetch an average salary bump of 7.7%, compared with job stayers’ 5.5%. #AWU #disability #jobs

The Wobbly Chair Test: An Interviewer's Unusual Interview Method
• Some interviewers use a 'wobbly chair test' during interviews to assess candidates' reactions to unexpected discomfort.
• Positive reactions, such as calmly tolerating the discomfort or politely requesting a change, demonstrate composure, problem-solving skills, and proactivity.
• Negative reactions, like complaining without offering a solution, may indicate a lack of focus or inability to handle minor workplace disruptions.
• While this unconventional method aims to gauge personality and resilience, its fairness and relevance to job requirements are debated, raising ethical concerns about its use in the hiring process. #AWU #disability #jobs #interviewtips

US Unemployment Claims Remain Stable
• Initial jobless claims in the US dipped slightly to 220,000 for the week ending March 8, indicating continued stability in the labor market despite some state-level fluctuations.
• While some states saw increases in claims (e.g., New York, Texas), others experienced significant decreases (e.g., Massachusetts, Rhode Island), suggesting a resilient national job market.
• Despite a slight rise in continued claims, the overall unemployment rate remains steady, demonstrating the labor market's capacity to absorb economic pressures. #AWU #disability #jobs
