I’m just curious how many people have lost their jobs due to automation or robots? If you did, what line of work are you in? I’m a mortgage underwriter and was laid off because it was slow. However, I have lots of friends in the industry laid off due to a new automated system the banks are using. Our jobs are very complex so it’s shocking! I have other friends in different lines of work all telling me their companies laid off because of a new automated system. I feel like we’re being eliminated all at the same time. Just wondering what others experience has been.

I've been laid off 2 almost 3 weeks..I was told that it was a shortage of work, coincidentally after I requested more pay for my production. The contractor that I was employed with barely has knowledge of the field and felt that every job was supposed to be complete in 2 weeks which some of them were but most of them wasnt. He always complained about somebody trying to milk him which in all actuality was not the case, its simply because he loves to stuff all of the earnings from the job in his pocket without having to perform a tap of physical labor. I brought my thoughts to him about this a couple of times and was told that things would change and of course that never happened. So I approached him with a different proposal being he pay by the job instead of the day,and I've been looking for work since. I refuse to work for someone of that nature because I know for a fact that I am a great hand and will not settle for his inconsideration and greed. So if anyone needs a great hand who is loyal, hardworking and dependable please feel free to contact me..thank you

So, I am one of those 'older folks' who worked for a large corporation for nearly 20 years only to be cut due to downsizing. Since this happened a few years back I have been through two other downsizing's at companies, I worked at one for a year and another less than 6 months. I've been passed over so many times for jobs, losing out to younger folk it's ridiculous. You mention to someone you think age plays a factor and they look at you like you are crazy. The only jobs at least 6 people in my field are doing now are Uber and Lyft. These were TV Weathermen, Anchors, Producers. I'm not knocking Uber but I didn't spend over 30 years bustin' butt to be a taxi driver. And, the jobs I do finally talk to people about, are only paying about $40K. If our economy is reportedly so great, why are there so many people aged 45-62 out of work or driving vehicles for a living? I don't want this to get political, I'm just curious if this is a National or Regional trend. What say ye?

I am looking for part time work to tie me over until I am waiting to hear back on a potential full time position. I have not been searching for work for over three years . I know time and technology has changed in job searching since I last did my job search. Can any of you tell me any tools to use in today's job search

A year ago I relocated from Va to Tx my company closed in Va and they paid for relocation. I just got laid off last week. Severance is only a two weeks pay. I worked as a trainer and supervisor call center close to 9 yrs. Looking for the same pay but what I am finding 3 to 4 dollar pay cut. How do negoitiate pay or keep looking?

After being laid-off back in January and almost 3 months of searching, filling-out applications and interviews, Citi has extended me an offer of employment! I was getting very discouraged and wondered if anyone would hire someone over 50 years old. Thanks to all of you who offered words of encouragement and motivated me to keep trying. I am so grateful!

I started a new job November of last year... I’m in the mortgage industry. My manager I guess ran out of his guarantee that was promised to him for 3-4 months. Guess since he didn’t have loans coming in he left mid January to another company and asked me to stay on with the lender I was with to print out all his applications so he can take it to his new company. I did as I was told and was promised to have a job with the new company he left to but wanted me to stay behind until his loan and another closed. I did it and low and behold when I resigned from the lender I was with and started at the new lender I was let go two days later! So I pretty much was used by my old manager and the worst part is that his boss knew exactly what was going on as he had his processor call me to pull a couple of his old loans! I was told I don’t have a case even though I have all the text to prove!! So now I’m a single mother jobless due to doing what I was told!!! Been looking for over a month now and no leads nor job!! Ohh his last words I will have you working soon I have a lot of connections!!! Right!! I’m jobl where are the connections now!!! What to do??? My daughter has needs and bills need to be paid and food in my daughters belly!!! I’m playing it cool for my daughter... but when she’s not around is when I breakdown!! I can’t keep this charade up much longer!!! I don’t even want to get out of bed anymore!!! Any advice??? I was told I don’t have a case has any one been through this??
