My displacement happened after 21 years with the same company at the age of 47. A new CEO, a changing of the guard, so to speak. I have struggled for the past 6 years. I am either over-qualified or under-qualified (generally based on specific industry experience). I can learn any technology and have successfully managed technical people, complex global projects and successfully transitioned between vastly different industries. However, in a recent interview I couldn’t correctly identify 25 IT acronyms, which were hurled at me in rapid succession. Is this what my decades of experience are boiled down to? In spite of the fact that specific IT applications can easily be learned, it is usually the lack of specific knowledge that seems to be my downfall and yet for several jobs I have been told, “You are clearly over qualified. Why would you want this job?” How do I explain that I am either over qualified or under qualified? How do I convince employers that I would look forward to being appreciated for the skills I bring to the table, even if it means I need to start at the bottom? I would welcome suggestions.

Previously, I worked for teleperformance twice. Once for about 1 year, then we moved. Then they started a work from home platform, which was awesome. I had to train for about 3 months, then on the last day of training and graduation, my car broke down. I was so mad. Then they laid us off, after two or three years. I think it was three years. I would of been promoted to mentor, if I had stayed there and worked on my performance much better. Anyways, if you were rehire-able, would you try go back to your old job, if you were like say, stuck in a bind money wise??? I'm age 50, and nobody wants to hire me, because I have medical issues, this company at least, knew I needed a break every 2 hours, which they did any ways, because if you're medically impaired they will work with you. Or would you accept another position,, that is some what better and has more accommodations for people like me? Sorry I have an intellectual/cognitive disorder, as well and have problems explaining things. What are my options??? accept my old job back, or go to this other job that wants me, and will work with me just, as well???

So I worked for DirecTV technical support for nearly 5 years before being laid off after the AT&T acquisition. They laid us all off after we diligently entered and configured our information into their OS. I was top performer the entirety of my career there. I got several rewards and recognition from DirecTV when AT&T came in they recognized nothing ' unless a union steward with the CWA. I nearly lost my job over a bottle of coke that the vendor representative said I could have.. it was a huge deal... accusing me of being a thief. I can't tell you how relieved I was yesterday after reading an MSN report that AT&T is being sued for padding thier numbers. This created a false sense of security and stocks went up? Now they want to get rid of DirecTV . These CEOs need to understand the general population isn't as dumb as they think. Hopefully they can sleep well knowing in 2 years they have destroyed by thier greediness something that a majority of people loved. Good luck AT&T I will absolutely no longer do business with you. My Dad retired after 40 years. What is the point of unions? The CWA is so tainted. It's a total and complete joke. I will no longer do business with any company that was built upon the broken backs of are father's to just be shipped overseas so CEO shifty eyes can get another billion on his account . Such double standards. The American Workplace is a shambles and shame. That's all...

My general manager has had it for me for over a year and a half and finally had my job eliminated. Starting over again hasn’t been easy. Trying to get past the Robo Recruiter is difficult. Any suggestions? I’ve been networking with as many friends as I can, but realize they can only do so much.

My general manager has had it in for me for over a year and a half and finally had my job eliminated after 30 years. Trying to find a job these days is not the same. Trying to get past the Robo-Recruiters is a pain. No more human contact. So frustrated

I worked as an Executive Admin. to the Plant Director. We were just purchased by our competitor. That was when we were informed it was time to lay-off. I was in the Structure Task Team that were responsible for closing the plant. It was very hard, but the process showed me how to. In regards to telling people who you know for man years, that they are laid off. But I remained strong in the most professional, transparent, efficient, & confidence manner.

My work is slowly closing. Everyone sees it happening. People talk and there are rumors going around that they have sold the company. Everyone is jumping ship before it goes down. I haven't been able to secure a new job. I may not have the best track record but I know I work and work hard. I need to find a way to get a new job before they close the doors. I'm not going down with the ship I can't my life is improving I'm finally getting back to normal what should I do? No one that's hireing will hire me.

I was laid off from Lowe's and when I tell people they keep saying sorry you got fired. Is that what they will say when my next job calls my references? Was I fired?!! What's the difference and what do I say during an interview??
