I applied for a job I am well qualified for, as most of us have, hoping for a response. A local company has contacted me for a phone interview which I'm sure will lead to a more personal interview. The problem is...they have a really bad online rating, 33 reviews from previous employees (the most I've seen for a small company), 25% positive at best. Most reviews are sincere and show management has been reviled for several years. How should I acknowledge their response, check them out, weigh my options, without burning a future bridge knowing they MAY not be a good fit? NOTE: They are a subsidiary of a larger corporation within the US with a local footprint of just under 100 employees.

This is what was told to me when I responded to the inevitable, “What are your salary expectations?” I said yes I AM worth that. That response from them was offensive AND rude. I answered that question honestly and openly. Plus, for the amount of work I would be required to put in for this job I thought it was more than fair. I also did a little research based on past salaries and I wasn’t way off. Did I do the wrong thing in asking slightly above the market value for salary? Unbelievable.

Has anyone ever tried to renegotiate company benefits before signing a job offer. My plan is to stay on my wife’s health insurance plan with her company and opt out of my company's health and wellness plan in exchange for more paid time off. Which of the common employee benefits can I exchange for more paid time off?

Last week I interviewed with four different companies three of them have offered me a position. All of them wanted a start date of Monday, but the fourth company is the one I really want and they're not making their decision until after 1 PM on Monday. These companies want an answer today as for When I could start. Would it be appropriate to say Tuesday I would be able to start at one of the other positions, and then call the two other companies and decline . In hopes of finding out Monday that I have the position at the fourth company which I really want. And if they don't offer me a position I'll still be elated because I'll be at my second choice ???

I really enjoy this type of work. I work hard and am a loyal employee. I would just like a job closer to home. Am willing to negotiate on salary depending on how good the commission rates are and how much closer to home the drive would be.

First of all I am looking for a new job before anyone says look for a job. My current employer just paid everyone for our regular payroll schedule. I noticed that my check was cut in half for the previous pay. I thought it was a mistake so I contacted our payroll department. When I explained what happen to my pay as I seen it. They informed me that they were notified from my Manager that I had accepted a 50% pay cut. Confused by this because why would anyone accept a 50% pay cut. I asked them to provide me a copy of the signed contract stating that I had accepted the cut. Payroll told me that they had not received anything but a verbal from my manager. They told me that I had accepted the pay cut because why would my manager lie to them. I than asked them for a copy of my employment contract and they said they did not have it. I have to contact Human Resources. I contacted Human Resources and they sent me a copy of my contract which I signed 10 years ago because that was the only thing they had. When I told them I was confused about the pay cut and was told that payroll explained that my manager verbally told them to cut my pay. HR told me to tread lightly on the accusations because if I put in a complaint I will automatically be terminated for lying. If I complain to the labor board with prove I will be terminated for something made up. The company has no actions in my HR personnel file since I requested a copy of it and HR sent me an email explaining there was nothing there. What do I do besides looking for a job and dealing with a substainal pay cut.

I’ve always made a mistake of accepting the first job offer with whatever pay they were offering which I usually end up regretting and beating myself up over when I realize all the extra job responsibilities outweigh the pay. How can I evaluate my previous experience and skills in a way to help me determine the proper financial (salary) value for my services to employers?

I finally got a job offer for a position I wasn’t originally serious about because of the starting pay which is significantly lower than what I am used to making in a similar position. I already tried negotiating a higher compensation package but was told that my offer is at the highest level they can pay an employee at that position right now. My finances are a mess as a result of a complicated divorce and being unemployed for so long. I’m concerned about accepting a position that won’t help me meet all of my financial obligations. I know something is better than nothing but I don’t want to have any resentments about accepting the job down the road. I have until the end of the week to respond but I’m not sure what to do. Should I say no thanks and continue to look for something better?

Need help. I think that I am about to get an offer for a job I really really want. The problem is that the pay range is kind of low. I know other people who negotiated their pay when the job was offered and the internet says that is the best time to negotiate. I am afraid of losing the job though. Has anyone else negotiated a higher salary before signing the offer letter?
