Newbie here, real quick overview of me, I am a student majoring in Psychology. Studying to earn my Bachelors, and decided to join this site to network with goal driven individuals like myself. Essentially to build interpersonal relationships with peers and higher ups in the workforce.

I knew someone who knew the owner

I've been on the same assignment from October 2016 to today, and it appears they are going to keep me here for an undisclosed amount of time. However, I am ready to find something that fits more with my education. I've been taking temporary assignments to make a paycheck. In between assignments, I've achieved my MBA. Now I'm ready to utilize my education and find not just a job but a position. How do I get referrals to get my foot in the door? Another question is: I relayed this information to the temporary service who placed me here at my current assignment, and they quickly became a bit hostile about it. They said, "we don't steal from our clients. If you want another assignment, you have to put in your two weeks' notice there and then we'll find another assignment for you." I've temped before and that's news to me. Usually it's "we can pull you from that one when we get a position that better fits you." They're usually supportive. Any advice? I also need advice for my resume. The school I attended has a student advisor that's been working with me on my resume, but I'm not so sure it's a good change. It went from one page to two. Isn't that a bit long? She seems to be happy with it.

I read that effective networking is the key to landing a career job. Unfortunately, I’ve come to realize that I honestly have absolutely no idea how to network for a job. I thought it simply involved calling on family and friends to ask them if they had any personal knowledge of anyone hiring. Or if they knew of an employment opportunity at their jobs they could refer me too. I’ve exhausted everyone I know with these questions but it’s not working, I’m still unemployed. It’s gotten to the point where people stopped answering and returning my calls. I read social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are also excellent networking platforms but my Facebook friends and twitter followers are the same people that fall under the friends and family network I mentioned above. What is it about the Networking strategy everyone claims to the best job searching tool that I’m missing? Is it a cold calling thing where I contact people out of the blue and ask them for a job? How can I get this thing working for me?

I have been laid off since Jan 2016, a little discouraged not able to land a job I have been on ample interviews I have lots if experience and haven't been able to land a job. But not giving up still out there networking myself

Why are so many people frustrated when they cannot find a job? I can tell you why......
It's because employers still are trying to hold out for their "superstar" or the one that fits their experience criteria. They could not care less that you are looking for a job as they have several hundred resumes (and at least 100 of them are better than yours) that pass through their online job pipeline. What makes you so different? How can a piece of paper with your experience, education and achievements be such a good speaker for you?
I do have a solution for that
The best thing for job seekers is to be salesmen / sales women. You officially working for "You, LLC" and your job is to gain an account with a company that can contribute to your needs. You see, "You, LLC" has a product that is very unique and really hard to come by....what you know (knowledge), how you use it (skill), how you understand and apply (ability) and how long you've done it well (experience). That resume that I talked about earlier, it is very useful but it cannot do the job alone. Honestly, the HR Recruiters, which are gatekeepers for the hiring managers, only look at them for about 15 seconds. If they do not have the key words like "Director of Marketing for 12 years" they will pass them over. The CEO of You, LLC knows this for a fact and therefore has to be the salesperson and get in front of the hiring manger and sell the resume as if it is the best product on Earth.
You LLC, must also have at least 10 potential clients on their list. Translated, it means to pick 10 jobs that are of interest and make sure to meet the hiring managers of each. This list should be updated as needed to make sure that you always have targets to hit.
When you think like a business, you are much more successful. The online application is now archaic as today's jobs is about "Who you know". So get to know them.

What's the best way to network yourself if you only meet the minimal requirements for a position.

Hello folks, I have reviewed several posts in this forum board, reviewing nice posts. My experience to being able to grab the opportunity, either working for someone or your own business is to network, network and more networking. I'm going to a lot of networking, after hours, networking lunches etc just making that first connection. Meeting people in person is the hands-down sure way into securing that favorite work, opportunity, and business connection. In through the course of the last 40 years gone by, I noticed young people are introverted because as the 80's-90's moved forward parents raised children with a fear of "strangers" going to get you out there. Young people today looking for a customer service or customer satisfaction opportunities will have a challenge to secure such a position if introverted. Customer service and satisfaction opportunities mandate a very pleasant, happy and outgoing personality with a "How can I help you" mentality. I have reviewed a large amount of opportunities even different business opportunities out there on many boards and in forums, most of the available opportunities mention in the requirements want some form of "must have customer satisfaction and service skill-set" to some degree. Network marketing is a special area, really mandates face to face customer service and satisfaction skill-set. So my advice would be to put on your best smile, an attitude I love people, an AWESOME personality and positive can attitude. This critical thinking proactive move will surpass someone with a line of certs and degrees. Yes, I know people out there went to college grabbed the educational requirements but with very poor personalities. College/university criteria is great but make sure you know someone going to pull you into the XYZ company because this mandates a "who-you-know"mentality.

Greetings all,
We all have information that may not be helpful to us but very helpful to others. We live here, work here, shop here and play here. who better to consult than each other. You may know of an opening that doesn't fit your needs but someone else may be looking for exactly that. Someone else may be researching a company that you have worked for previously or may have been a client or customer. We have the ability with a few clicks to have a network of people with "real" information thus increasing our odds of achieving our goals. Let's take this to the next level and step up our game.
