Been without a job for about 3-4 months and I’ve never had a complaint before by any of my employers. I’ve unfortunately never got my diploma but that never stops me of succeeding and making my best happen. I have so many references but unfortunately I never get a chance

Intially I had joined a non-profit group as a volunteer because I was looking at switching my major from technology into mental health. I showed up early for my shift, hardly missed my shift, and did the continuing education requirements. Within a year I was satisfied and enrolled at collegs online campus.

Unfortunately I had to walk away from the pursuit of Bachelors because they wanted me to take third-party student loans. Deveststed I took free training class Adult Mental Health First Aid. and because of non-profit organization it came like second nature. I was so impressed I took the second training Youth Mental Health First Aid. Wanting more info I learned from the instructor about becoming a Certified Peer Support Worker.

After this the non-profit organization began distaning themselves from me. Like I'd betrayed them. I kept being told I was wrong in my approach, and at one point after becoming licensed the director went as far to gaslight me saying I needed to be trained again her way. She even said I wasn't loyal and why am I giving another organizations number. Completely invalidating all training I had within her organization.

Needless to back in April I left a non-profit group that I had volunteered with for three years because I felt my training now surpassed their narrow scope of the services they were proving to the community. Now I'm interviewing with other companies and torn on what I believe this non-profit organization might say about my character

How does one defend against a group in interviews who attack your character?

Your character references can have an adverse impact on your hiring process, if not selected with care!

Q. How important are character references? Who are your character references?

  • Your character references are important and their input could have bearing during your hiring process based on extenuating circumstances.

  • Your character references are persons you hand-pick to represent you beforehand leading to potential interviews.

Q. Did you select the right persons as character references? Or, what happens when unknowingly to you, a review committee realizes that one of your character references are under investigation from pending allegations? Now, how will that impact you moving forward for an interview?

  • Be sure to do your due diligence and homework extremely well. Your character references can play an integral role in the selection process.

I Believe You Can...!

I was fired from my job of 3 years for falling asleep. I care for my disabled husband after he broke his neck a year ago. Having had a particularly rough night caring for him, I got about 3 hours sleep. The office was very quiet that day and I had completed my work. After being allowed to complete my day, I went home. When I went to work the next morning, I was immediately sent home without pay. It took them 2 weeks to officially fire me. My unemployment was denied. My former employers didn't even mention the fact that I was always early, that I often went out of my way to do company business, was proficient in my responsibilities, and we'll liked by clients. Now, I can't seem to find a job anywhere. I feel like they have black balled me and are giving negative responses to perspective employers. As hard as I tried to appease my supervisor, nothing was good enough. What do you think?

I've been actively job hunting since my last job back in Mar. I'm a hard worker with outstanding work ethics with a lot of knowledge in the warehouse an distribution industry. I can operate various kinds of warehouse equipment such as forklifts, clamps, cherry pickers, rider jacks, and do a lot more. I've been applying at many different places submitting my resume and I haven't received any job offers yet. I have great references an usually I add a cover letter. I NEED HELP!!!!!

I’m in the interview process at a new job and they told me yesterday they would call my pass job and I’m nervous because they might say something negative about me. It was hard working there bc I never really got the hang of things bc I was trained 2 days and my supervisor told me the wrong thing while I was training. It didn’t help either bc I was only working one day a week. What do you think. I need advice.

Hello, i recently left a job as an Accountant for a company that didn't have the best management. I had expressed concerns to my direct manager about some disrespectful comments that were being made by seniors on our team that were at that point considered harassment. Nothing was done about it, i mentioned it to HR but again nothing was done about it. After this i decided to leave the company, on my current job search all my recruiters are letting me know that they for sure need a reference from this employer, considering that my direct manager was furious i took my concerns to HR he was upset when i left the company, hence i would not want to use him as a reference.

I've worked in the accounting field for about 8 years and all my previous employers have great things to say about me, I'd hate to think that this last experience is going to hinder my future job search, does anyone know how i can get around this "reference" dilemma .

Thank you all !!!

I was kind of fired from a job after fourteen years. When I left I was given a severance and had to sign a gag order. Because I was scared that I would end up homeless in one the most expensive cities in the San Francisco Bay Area, I agreed not to discuss the situation to anyone and I asked that I be given a neutral reference which the University agreed to. However, to my dismay, I have been denied jobs because of negative references given by the University. I feel stuck! Does anybody know how to get around getting bad references without having to hire a attorney?

I was hired at a company and they gave me 5 whole days to learn the job before they cut me loose. Said I wasn't picking up speed like they wanted to see. However they did say based on other aspects of my job performance that they would be willing to give me a reference.
