What do you do after working for a company like Amazon, UPS , Macy’s, etc. after the holiday hiring season? I know these employers will let many people go after January but was curious what people did after

During the holidays, there is always someone hiring. I worked with Amazon and FedEx so that I could pay for what I need and have a little extra. I was okay with not being able to buy what.

Well, I have been working with Amazon for over two years. And about a year ago I became a flex employee which required me to work only one day out the month. However, when the volume increased I was able to work more hours. I tell you working in a warehouse is no joke. But, I enjoy it.

Although I can get a regular shift at Amazon, I just don't want to work 8 to 10 hours in a warehouse. So, I worked at FedEx from like 3 to 9 and sometimes I had the opportunity to go to Amazon and put in a few hours there.

I didn't want to take a shift with Amazon because I could never go back to being a flex employee. I love being a flex employee with Amazon because I am only required to work one day out of the month. In which they are not hiring flex employees anymore, I am grandfathered in.

And the good news is that I was able to quit working for FedEx because I will be starting a new job in the new year.

So, I am back to working two jobs, Amazon and the new job. And, my advice is to "Never give up".

Good luck to my Jobcase family!

I have been searching for a new job since the beginning of June. I have over 12 years in administrative experience. I am getting interviews but then get ghosted. Even by staffing agencies. One job stated that they went with another applicant as they live closer to the business. A staffing agency emailed me and said they would have to dig deeper to find something appropriate for me. I've had only 2 jobs in the past 13 years. Due to hard work & proving myself I was promoted to management positions even though I knew nothing of that industry initially. I just turned 60 recently and feel that I will have to "dumb" down my resume just to get a full time job. (I currently am working a part time seasonal job that does not pay the bills). I don't have a college degree, licensed or special certification which is why I'm looking for administrative positions. My previous bosses (both companies downsized so I wasn't let go due to performance) are actively giving me leads & are my job references. Even they don't understand why some company has not snatched me up yet. How can I tell if I am being age discriminated against?

Hello fellow Jobcasers,

As you search for work and apply for positions, please understand that we are heading directly into the holiday season. During the time from Thanksgiving through New Years, you are most likely not going to hear much from your submitted applications (Unless you are applying for holiday/seasonal positions).

Most businesses pretty much shut down for all intents and purposes during this time as key staff are using the last of their PTO and taking off in the weeks between those holidays.

If you submit applications this week and next, you run the risk of being frozen out until after the holidays. Keep track of which companies you applied to, and if you haven't heard anything by the 2nd week of January, follow up, or check if the position is still available and re-apply.

Do not be discouraged. If you are in need of employment for the holidays, consider taking seasonal positions at retail/restaurants. It may not be ideal, but it will bring in some much needed money during the busy shopping season.
