The customers are the reason I loved working at Speedway. And for the most of my colleagues also, but I don't think I can recommend the manager that I worked for as a good person to have to work for.

I would go through and hire hard workin individual that want to work

Run...run as fast as you can from this company of Speedway. Absolutely horrible company and I will explain. First, they posted the job of assistant manager at a location near my house, I got the interview and during the interview the general manager said that they would do their best to get me placed in that store and I also talked about a bonus of 20% of what the store manager made. So finally when they started me on my first day, the recruiter had givin me the wrong time to show up which was a crappy way of starting off but irregardless I was sent to a small Speedway store with very few employees.
The manager that was in charge of my training actually admitted that she was not qualified to train me because she had no training in training someone LOL so first bad mark. Secondly, I was driving 20 minutes one way for this training. Anyway I started off the job watching lots of video in the morning and then in the afternoons working like a slave and yes they had me working as a regular employee instead of a manager I was learning all the basic stuff instead of the important stuff. During my training they were stressing and instilling fear of big wigs coming in government officials coming in and the company that tests their employees. And the reason for this was underage alcohol and tobacco sales, explain to me that you had to card everybody that appeared under 40 years old which is not an easy task and if you slip up once you get a warning you slip up twice and you're fired not to mention that they told a story about a recent employee that got 18 months in prison for accidentally selling to an underage party and fined $10,000, also they were stressing a lot about scammers and robberies since apparently it happens a lot at their stores and I didn't realize this when I applied for the job. Irregardless I kept working trying to become an assistant manager and my third day there after just a little bit of training I was sent to a store that had no manager and was a very high-level store.... When I got there there was approximately 40 customers inside and outside.... It was a nightmare I was told that the place did not have a store manager for weeks and that other management had quit, there was only one manager left from the original staff and the District manager was bringing in people from other stores to help this nightmareIsh store from bleeding out, the store only had temporary managers from other stores coming into work there was no actual regular employees... During the time that I was there the ATF actually decided that it was time to do an inspection while there is 30 customers in the store approximately 15 customers per line and that this time the temporary manager told me to go out and get all the trash on the outside lot which has not been changed for a week and this was a complete nightmare changing all the trashes etc etc killing my back and I'm no spring chicken.... Irregardless after 3 hours and me close to quitting I finally was released. So anyway I went back to my training store the next week... And trained all week watching videos only and then they did a little training on the registers and they were constantly focusing on coffee coffee coffee coffee for all these customers that was their biggest thing was coffee. Finally at the two-and-a-half week Mark I went to a training seminar for leadership, at their training headquarters however what we learned there did not really help us to deal with our problems that we had to deal with at each store which was overwhelming.... At the seminar we were fed very good food however we were also told that Speedway was slowly bleeding out that they had a 65% new employee failure rate and they also had the attitude that as a company they are not perfect which is kind of a strange attitude to have for a company that should be having the image of a winning company and stopping all the bleeding out and fix their problems but that was not their attitude. So from the top they had a bad attitude so anyway I went back to the training store next day and begin my training of once again watching videos and during the video all of a sudden I started getting welts on my neck so I thought it was mosquitoes that had somehow flown into the store so I started looking at the headset equipment and there were bugs crawling all over the headset well I notified the manager and she said that it was bed bugs and I was like oh my God well I am severely allergic to bed bugs so they had to end up giving me Benadryl because I was ready to pass out...
So anyway Not only was this bad enough that I had to every day take all my clothes off when I got home throw them in the washer and dryer and jump in the shower to scrub my entire body to make sure that I did not bring bed bugs home with me but I end up injuring my back because they had me lifting lots and lots Pop & Beer in the cooler and again being a older person it ended up taking a toll on my hip and my knee. So eventually what caused me to quit was that I was promised that I would be taking over the store temporarily when the store manager went on vacation however this did not happen they gave control of the store to a young woman who had some prior management experience within the company over me which was much older and had prior management experience, they should have had her assisting me since I was officially an assistant manager and training is she was just a regular employee Also I found out that the company had lied to me about the bonuses the assistant managers would get I was told that I would get 20% of what my store manager would get on their bonus in my interview however at my training seminar they told us that was not true... So I confronted the district manager not only about that but about the bedbugs and about me driving 150 miles a week. I was told that they were completely aware of the bed bug problem however they did not have pest control companies coming into spray OMG...also they admitted that there was no bonus for the assistant manager other than a small $50 bonus which meant nothing to me and this was one of the big things about getting me to stay at this job was the thought of getting bonuses regularly of like 7 to $900 on top of my regular salary of 27000.... So anyway I was also told that they were going to start having me drive even further which would have been 450 miles round-trip and then after that training they were going to put me into a store which would have been 600 miles round-trip weekly so after I talked to the district manager I decided that it would be in my best interest to go ahead and quit plus I had to begin my physical therapy which result of injuring my hip on the job and by the way I was not smart enough to file workman's comp because I was so busy working there I didn't have time to think. So whatever you do, do not apply for this company do not waste your time they do not care about their employees at all yes the money is good on the hour but no bonus unless you're a store manager or a co-manager you're totally screwed as an assistant manager....but overall they do not care you're not even allowed to get a discount on your drinks or food or anything and if they catch you taking a drink here or there they will terminate you even if you have 10 years experience they don't care, you get absolutely no breaks unless you are a smoker then you get to stand by the front door. Overall a very very horrible place to work horrible training, horrible conditions, horrible morale, upper management is absolutely horrible, they lie to you they take advantage of you and they use you to their own purposes, they can and will fire you for whatever reason they choose and frequently do so, a veteran at this company is someone who has worked there 6 months.... That's how bad their turnover rate is.... You want to know what it is to be a Slave then go to work for Speedway. Lots of cons for working here and the only Pros was good wages on the hour and the customers .... So like I said in the beginning of the paragraph RUN and RUN as fast as you can from this horrible horrible company..

At the time I was living in Portage MI and I had just moved there. Speedway managers all knew I was there saving money for school so they offered as many hours as they could. The job was always busy and I had something to do. There were difficult things but it was more of a fun challenge to figure out the best way to execute an efficient plan. When I moved back home I stay with Speedway because they were very helpful in getting me a job back home. The transfer was simple and easy. I find that Speedway is full of pride and that makes everyone there work hard to maintain that powerful vibe.

Co-worker came to work high off of marijuana and started cussing at me. My manager was notified and didn't want to listen to both sides of the story. So I the employee who wasn't high got sent home.
