I loved the everything about my job at UT

This is a school that provides significant opportunities for students to succeed. Faculty supports student growth and development and students appreciate the attention and education they receive.

What made me stay was getting to no the job and the co-workers as well as the other staff members. The work was not hard but dealing with some of the workers was. But learning about the school, the building itself ordering the things needed for job, from painting to repairing things that needed repairing, I like working with my hands it was good but theirs always someone that doesn't like or is jealous of you and will do what they can to get reed of you. But I just did what I new to do and go on.

I graduated from UCLA with a BA in Sociology and a BA in History...yes two BA's.I enjoyed my UCLA years. I enjoyed my experience so much I applied and was hired at the UCLA Medical Center. I was employed at the UCLA Medical Center for twenty years... I had enjoyed my work until my homophobic manager found out I was gay. I requested Family Medical Leave in order to be the primary care giver for my partner, of 30 years, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. My manager refused to grant me time off (I had 1200 hours of sick time on the books). My manager said to me "Its a good thing that I can separate my beliefs from my obligation to UCLA". I demanded to use FMLA, the UC benefits department said that gay employees would have the same rights as married employees. UC benefits forgot to add FMLA to the benefits stimulation for gay employees. The harassment, discrimination began...HR did nothing to help. My situation was presented to the UC Regents and the FMLA policy was amended to include gay "families". This happened 10 years before Marriage Equality.

They gave me a private office and free reign to design my courses.

I have been asked to share my work with UNT social work. This was an adjunct course and I really enjoyed it. I wanted to join the faculty but UNT had a hiring freeze...bummer. Most of my recent work has been in higher education and the experiences have been rewarding and good. My last job, though, was a total nightmare. You just have to keep on going and finding another great opportunity.

The opportunity to serve students.
