Last week my mom passed away after being sick for a long time. I had an interview set up for last Friday that I could not attend because of the wake being that day. I sent an email explaining I could not make it and why and if possible could we reschedule. They did reschedule it as well as send thier condolences. I went on the interview earlier which she again said my condolences to you and your family in person. I wrote her a thank you note for rescheduling and making arrangements in her schedule to do that for me when she didn't have to. That position is at an animal shelter by me. Not all companies will reschedule if something comes up as I know from experience with my 9 year old getting sick (vomiting) the day of an interview resulting in me having to call them. Then the day after she passed, I got a call from another place after a phone interview for the UPS store the week before. Now my head is not thinking straight due to what happened. I ended up ummm, let me think, everything an interviewer doesn't want to hear. I finally said I am sorry and told them I just lost my mom yesterday and I am trying to deal with all that. They too said how sorry they were and to call Monday when everything is taken care of. I called them today figuring worst that can happen is that they hired someone else already or changed their mind. Instead I now have an interview set up with them next Monday. I am so appreciative of both of these places and in a way they reassured me that not all companies are just concerned about the bottom line. Some do care about their workers and those who may or may not come aboard to work for them. I guess what I am saying is even in the darkest of times, there are those who do understand, even big companies. I don't know yet if I will get either job but time will tell.
