I’ve done countless hours of community service over the past 5 years. Kind interaction with people comes natural to me which definitely helps me to communicate with them. I love helping my community and I just want to give back. I don’t need to get payed for doing it, and i’m satisfied. There have been many different community service events I participated in. This allows me to grasp a better understanding on a variety of things. I have done everything from selling baked goods at the farmers market, helping out at the Farmers Market’s food booths, art night for an elementary school, events at my community center, book night for an elementary school, and more!

I volunteered for the Final Four Fan Fest as an airport greeter and information desk in San Antonio Texas. It was a challenge but great opportunity. Next, I was selected by the Mighty Group to perform more projects on the Dream Week in January Assistant to the Marketing Consultant. This build my confidence to search for a job and network with people.

It's hard to believe Labor day is here and it's time to go back-to-school. Are your children looking for schools community service hours? If so here are some great ideas:

  1. Animal Shelter: If your kids love cats and dogs this is a great idea. So many great opportunities at a local shelter. Your kids will have fun interacting with dogs and kitties looking for a forever home.
  2. Local Food Bank: The cold weather is coming and food banks are in need. You children can volunteer to help at the food bank facility or they can organize a neighborhood food drive by collecting cans of food.
  3. Habitat for Humanity: Kids can get hands on experience using tools and painting. Have them wear old clothes and shoes just in case they get paint on them.
  4. Nursing Home: So many nursing home patients are lonely and have not family. Your children can spend some time reading a book or playing a game with a resident. Just sitting and having someone to talk to would be a great help. This would be great for your child if they have no grandparents in town to help connect with an older generation.
  5. Charity Shop: How fun would it be for your kids to help sort and distribute donations. They could be a big help and have fun helping those in need. Plus finding vintage treasures is fun.

Before picking a charity make sure the non-profit is approved by the school or club your kids need volunteer hours with. Make sure the non-profit has a good reputation and offers a safe place for your children. Ask if they do background checks on the other volunteers. It's always more fun to go with a friend. Have your son or daughter invite one or many friends to volunteer. I hope they have fun and enjoy their volunteer experience.
