**Want to work at Whole Foods?**Then you probably already know that competition for these jobs can be tough.
Whole Foods is an extremely popular grocery chain that specializes in offering organic foods and Fair Trade products. All that popularity means that Whole Foods is growing by leaps and bounds - and that means there are plenty of job opportunities. But even just getting an interview at Whole Foods might feel like an uphill battle. Wondering how to get hired? Don’t worry: We’re revealing the key strategies you should use to get a job at Whole Foods. Get Your Resume Noticed Before you can get the Whole Foods job, you need to land an interview. But before you get the interview, you need to create an attention-grabbing resume. Recruiters are challenged with identifying the best resources from a pool of literally hundreds of candidates per position. That means recruiters don’t exactly have a lot of time to go through each resume! To sort through the resumes, companies like Whole Foods rely on special online software called the ATS to evaluate, score, and filter candidates to specific positions. If you’re not getting a callback for an interview, It could be that your resume isn’t making it out of that selection process. To help your resume make it through this first round, use these insider tips: Refer to the Job Description - Use the company job description to identify keywords you can use in your resume. Let’s refer to a description for a cashier job at Whole Foods as an example (http://bit.ly/1WZYxGp). We’ve BOLDED the keywords for you. Cashier Job Requirements:

  • Previous Front End or Customer Service experience preferred.
  • Excellent Communications skills and willingness to work as part of a team; ability to communicate effectively with customers.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to sell Proactively.
  • Effective time management skills. Structure your resume to specifically match keywords in the description. Try to repeat keywords as many times as possible to help improve your score (without making it look messy!). For example:
  • Tended the Front End Customer Service station and effectively used my communication skills to identify customer concerns and provide solution options.
  • Adhered to the company’s cash management instructions and procedures when settling my cash drawer at the end of each shift.
  • Effectively used my time management skills to re-stock my service area with supplies and promotional information in order to proactively sell additional products and services. Use a Standard Resume Format - Some programs have a hard time identifying fancy fonts. Use the standard or normal typeface (Times New Roman or Arial). Avoid using headers/footers and page numbers. Dot Your I’s and Cross Your T’s - Complete every section of the application process. Be sure to answer every question on the assessment to avoid getting disqualified. Make a list of your work history for the last 10 years and include the following information:
  • Company name
  • Address
  • Supervisor’s full name
  • Title
  • Contact phone numbers Once you’ve completed all of these steps and submitted your application, it’s time to stand out from the applicant pool. The next section will help you do exactly that! Follow Up Like a Pro The standard Whole Foods recruiting and evaluation process for potential candidates can take up an average of 4-6 weeks. Don’t let yourself get discouraged if you’re not immediately contacted for an interview - as you can see, it may take some time to get hired! However, that doesn’t mean you have to sit around and wait for someone to get in touch with you. Following up with your application is one of the best ways to land an interview at Whole Foods, as it shows you’re enthusiastic about the job role. Take a look at the best ways to get yourself on a recruiter’s radar: Initiate Contact: It’s a competitive job market, so don’t wait by the phone! Initiate contact by using
any (or all!) of the following methods: Phone - Call the store and ask to speak to a human resources representative or hiring manager. Explain that you completed your online application and would like to confirm that it was processed and received. They can check their database and let you know if the application has been accepted, rejected, or pending further information. Note - the best time to call is within the first two hours after the store opens. Customer traffic is less busy and employees have more time to manage calls. Email - Use a quick online search to find out the email address of the company’s hiring manager. Write an email expressing your interest in the position, as well as why you think you’re the best candidate for the job. Attach your resume to the email, and don’t forget to include your contact details Walk-in - This is my personal favorite! I think that face-to-face interactions allow for better selling opportunities. Walk into the store and ask to speak to an HR rep or a hiring manager. Follow the same steps noted on the phone process above. Note - Don’t be surprised if you’re put through a screening process by the service staff. Expect to use a bit of charm to be shown directly to the HR rep.
Show Persistence: Don’t be afraid of the follow-up process. Most recruiters like to see persistent applicants; just be sure not to overdo it. You don’t want to end up accidentally annoying a hiring manager! Using the above strategies can make it much more likely that you’ll get an interview. So how can you turn that interview into a job offer? Get Ready to Rock Your Interview with Whole Foods There are three basic questions you need to be able to answer in order to work at Whole Foods: Can you do the job? Your resume got you to the interview, but now you have to provide evidence that you can perform the job. Prepare and rehearse stories of real-life examples from past experiences that demonstrate your ability to manage the tasks and challenges of the position. Do you love Whole Foods? Be prepared to talk about your passion for the company, as well as what makes it so special to you. Whole Foods is known for hiring people who are enthusiastic about the brand - make sure you’re one of them! Can we work together? This is a big deal for recruiters! They need to determine if you’ll be a good fit within the Whole Foods culture. Discuss how your goals and career expectations align with the company. Tip - A Whole Foods recruiter pointed out that the most common mistakes candidates make during interviews revolve around a lack of self-awareness. Applicants are unable to express their career goals and talk about their past experiences. They also frequently stumble over the “greatest weakness” question. Take time to soul search and define what you want to achieve with this job at Whole Foods. Think about how you would like to grow professionally and where you see yourself in five years. Don’t forget to practice any interview questions with the Jobcase community! The Whole Foods Application Processing Timeline The standard application timeline expectation for Whole Foods is 4 - 6 weeks and includes all of the following:
  • Online Application & Assessment
  • Application/Assessment screening review and evaluation
  • Phone Interview
  • Team Leader Interview (In-Person)
  • Offer & Orientation Scheduling As you can see the application and hiring process for Whole Foods can be lengthy. Don’t just apply, sit back, and wait the recruiter to call. If you want to get a job at Whole Foods (or anywhere else, for that matter!), stand out from the crowd by using the strategies in this article. Remember, the Jobcase community is here to support you!
