Working with the animals is enjoyable. The owner, on the other hand, is very unprofessional with his employees. He treats the animals great but treats employees like trash. He will belittle, undermine and yell at you. 3rd day of employment he screamed and yelled when I first got in the door in front of all the other employees that I tell him if I was going to be full time or not, if not get out (which I had already told him I had no problem with the hours or the job) He was sick that day. He will tell you he wants you to work full time, trying to give you 40 hours a week and require you to be available everyday of the week for every shift. In 2 weeks as a full time employee he gave me less then 40 hours (this is something he does to all employees which was confirmed during conversation with them) When I spoke with the owner about the hours he didnt schedule me at all the next weeek. I questioned him as to why which he never responded to then he fired me saying I was always late which wasnt the case. He was mad because I told him he was being unprofessional and I wouldnt except being treated the way he was treating me. The day before that a full time employee who had been there for 1 year quit because of the similar issues. His turn over rate for 1 year is over 20. Regardless if my words are believed or not, the numbers dont lie and speak for themselves.

So what do you do when you decide to make a career change at an older age? I guess you would say that I have been self employed for my entire life. I grew up on the family dairy farm and after receiving a degree in agronomy with minors in dairy science and forestry, I went back to the farm. I sold my herd of cows to a nephew 10 years ago and concentrated on raising crops and better managing our wooded acres. I also established a maple sapping operation and tap 3500 maple trees. I have a daughter in law and couple grandkids that have worked with me on this and see some opportunities for them to grow this and market products on their own.
My concern is, I have never contributed much to social security and would like build my credits. Where do I go from here? I have also not done a resume since 1983.

I love the people I worked with. I love working cattle and maintaining the property.

This place is not a good place to work. I been there for 3 yrs an recently got fired. They will work you like a dog. The building is falling apart. When it rains out it rains inside the building. The management is bad. The pay could be more for working in a freezer an for all the work you gotta do. The 1st shift lead is lazy. Eats all day an doesn't help out. Worse place to work. Call OSHA asap

That I have a major passion for animals that I should go to school to become a dog trainer or some kind of schooling with animals involved

If you have a passion for Animals it would work out perfectly for you and if you're not afraid do some cleaning either.

Accidentally leaving a gate unclipped in a dog got out and took off and leaving a cat condo unlocked in a cat got out where there was another cat out and started cat fight
