My parents seem to think I’m some sort of lazy bum because I’ve moved back in with them. I’ve been trying to tell them that the job market just isn’t what it used to be, when they were trying to make it on their own.

Now, I’ve finally got statistics to back up my case! 40% of all young adults are living with relatives these days!

Great news ahead for 2017:

"The professions expected to show one of the biggest job growth rates in 2017 and the largest growth in sheer number of jobs will be trade skills, according to a year-end report from CareerBuilder and labor market data provider Emsi. The U.S. economy is expected to add just over 1 million new jobs in fields such as electrician, plumber and HVAC technician in 2017. That’s a job growth rate of 8 percent. The average hourly earnings for professionals in those fields will be $21.38, or about $45,000 a year in 2017, the report says."

At least that’s what current studies are showing. Sexism of the brash and vulgar kind (cough TRUMP cough) isn’t nearly as common today as the subtle little ways we put each other in boxes and hold each other back. This article is super interesting. A research team sent science faculty at some big universities applications for scientist positions they had open. The resumes were EXACTLY THE SAME, except for a male or female name. BUT THE RESUME WITH THE MALE NAME was always ranked higher and even given HIGHER PAY.

Myth#1: It cost more to hire older workers. FACT: This is true in some cases but employers experience a significantly higher return on investment as the initial cost are offset by a strong job performance and a high quality of work.

Myth#2: Older workers miss more workdays. FACT: WRONG! Reports show older workers are least likely to take time off to recover from an illness, care for others, and sustain less workplace injuries.

Myth#3: Older workers have a hard time adapting to new technologies. FACT:WRONG AGAIN!! The truth is new technology can be intimidating to anyone and older workers are among the fastest growing users of technology.
