I have been a bartender for 18 years!! This is the first time I have not been able to find work. I was let go earlier this week and the entire state has shut down restaurants because of the coronavirus.
What should I do? I know I won’t make even close to the same money if I work as a cashier somewhere.

Don’t. They promote inexperienced staff into management positions who weed out anyone not perfectly aligned with their incompetent management.

Find somewhere else to work. It’s a shit show. They’ve gone through twenty-something General Managers in a little over a year. Watched them personally fire the hardest working manager they had, only to hire back the drunk woman who was passed out at MY on-boarding. It’s an OWNER problem. They don’t care about their employees. As a bartender, I never had anything I needed. I was bringing fresh fruit from my garden to make people’s drinks better. My best friend and I received raved reviews from all the customers, on how we were PERSONALLY turning things around. Then I realized that place is just a cash cow for the owners, and that they really don’t care about their employees. So TWO of the best bartenders they ever had at that place quit....That’s all you need to know! Good luck!

No questions. No bad experiences. Experienced, qualified bartender looking for a nice place to work. Close to my home. You may check me out on Facebook if you like. I got nothing to hide. Clean record. 5'4" . 120 pounds fast on my feet. Friendly. Not a dummy. Friendly. Not unattractive.

The biggest mistake i made was staying as long as i did. Low pay, refusal to pay over time, no benefits, inept management, countless code violations and other very inappropriate policies, refusal to upkeep the bar area through maintenance or budget, and the complete refusal to compromise on any and all demands from ALL employees led to a very stressful, disappointing, and soul crushing work experience.

Make sure you take the slip of hours and make sure they pay you. Still haven’t received nothing because they wanted to split my hours on two checks so basically taxes took everything. They couldn’t add 12.5 hours. Made me quit right there and then. I got a 4 hr check and then a 6 hr check. Not even the correct hours.
