The ideal of being part of a family. A company that cares about its associates. A company that provides its associates with great benefits, allowing us to prepare for the future. Being able to use my knowledge and skills. For management and customer service.

After working retail and now in the bartending and waitressing field, I realize I have untapped talent with regards to my people skills. I have received job offers recently on the spot, most are sales . Looking for more options regarding hotel management or party planning. My gift of gab and ability to multi task are an asset.

I ended up retiring at a young age because I couldn't cope with my job. I was always getting warnings and working my butt off but just not being good enough. I'd wake up with my stomach churning and I just couldn't deal with it anymore. I think my employer really wanted me to leave. The problem is that I've had to take any job because I needed an income. I accepted a lot of jobs that I hated. I've been working in insurance since 1984 and I hate insurance. Insurance and I don't get along--it is not a good fit. I was interested in fundraising or being an administrative assistant--in planning and coordinating activities. I was not interested in being in the back working with details and trying to get it done in a short period of time. I'd go to employment agencies and tell them what I wanted and lo and behold I'd get placed with some insurance company. My resume shows that I have experience with insurance and details--it doesn't show that I really stunk. A lot of it is my fault. I should have followed my gut and studied elementary education but at the time there were tons of teachers. Instead I studied mass communications and when I was a senior I found out that I would have a very difficult time getting work. If I did I could forget about social life which is important to me. When I came out of college I had no skills. Over the years I have gone to night school to gain skills but I still got stuck in insurance. I learned to be a word processing operator and was interested in working for an engineering or architectural firm or an aerospace firm--but no I ended up in insurance. I had that in my job history and I asked the employment companies to please not send me to insurance. I was sent to a state office that I was told dealt with retirement but I didn't do retirement. They had a subsidiary and guess what--it was a place where we processed insurance claims. I look back and I see I was stupid to accept something I didn't like. I was stupid not to realize that mass communications would not be a lucrative field for me and I should have realized that the hours would prevent me from the social life that I so much need. I can't believe how stupid I was.

Just wondering, how far can a person reach in this company starting from this entry level position? I feel as though I bring a lot of character, and enthusiasm to any environment and would love the opportunity to rise within the UPS brand.
