In today's world, people want instant gratification. Employers seem to only go with the sure thing. Yes, hiring someone with experience may be a good thing, but how's their work ethic?? Thing is, companies get so caught up in pretty resumes that they overlook a lot of good candidates. I've been getting views on my resume but only one call. This is very discouraging but I just heard on the news that unemployment is at a low for African Americans but I've been unemployed for about close to three months. I know I have the intangibles to be successful no matter what field I'm in but unfortunately, companies aren't willing to bring people in to mold them. I just want the opportunity to earn a living working somewhere I can be proud to make a career out of it. Hoping I can find the right job that fits me because I'm tired of settling for jobs just because I need to earn a living. I need a job that's gonna pay a decent amount per hour and I shouldn't feel as though my only option is Amazon.

Hello Everybody: I have been unemployed for about 7 months now. I left my previous job because it was a very toxic environment lacked of respect. I have been in so many interviews and everytime hey asked why I left I always said I'm looking for a professional environment. I don't know I'm awsering wrong. I change my tactic and I'm saying something else. My last interview I was asked if I have kids I said no. And I was asked if I'm planing to have kids in the future. I was very honest I said yes. Could someone tell me why employees ask this type a question it sounds wrong. Unfortunately I wasn't offered the job.

I read comment after comment from those unemployed and am left baffled. Major employers are complaining about a workforce shortage whilst the unemployed complain they cannot be hired, are passed over, over-qualified, etc. What a conundrum we live in. I ask: "Where does this truth lie and with whom"?
Discrimination and prejudice are alive and thriving in the work place. I take people's recitations of their experiences as true. However, I am mindful of potential personal bias. People telling their experiences from their perspective. With that being said...
Employers and applicants are not seeing eye to eye. Employers seek out this guarantee perfect employee (or as close as they can get). The applicant seeks out employment they FEEL they are qualified for or capable of performing the position requirements. Neither are willing to let go of unrealistic expectations or drop the facade. There is never the "perfect" job nor "perfect" employee.
Please understand that I do speak from experience. I'm a felon. I did time. It was over 20 years ago. Employers still slaughter me job after job. Then lie about why I wasn't selected for a position I genuinely meet or exceed the criteria outlined by the employer.
How do we all bridge this gap? Quite frankly, I am finally to the point where I present the real me. I don't go out of my way with the plastic face and fake smiles. I present myself as I am. Bold, confident, and keeping it real. I know me, my life history and qualifications. Does it work? I can state employers have commented on the breath of fresh air and relaxed interview. What type of attitude do you bring with you?
Today I own my own company. Slow but with positive progression. My expectations of employers are extremely low going in to any company. What are your expectations going in?
There are a lot of articles, videos, and the such, teaching people how to obtain long-term employment. People believe there is some magic method or a quick fix. TRUTH: There IS NOT! Each employer company, each interviewer, and even the interview environment vary each time. It is what it is. A fact we cannot change. Yet we can adapt.
My advice is to be the real you. Be proud of who you are. Walk into an interview confident in what you have to present. Admit your errors and lessons learned. Tell them how you'd be an asset to their company and your willingness to learn. These seem to be the common themes among those who are being obtaining employment. Not any guarantee but some ideas to help you on your journey.
A good job is earned with time. Keep pushing forth forging your own path. If that means working at Burger King until you're the CEO of a Fortune 500; so be it. FOOTNOTE: Be mindful of what you post on social media. This cannot ever be overstated. If you have any ideas on how to bridge this employer-employee gap, please share them. Thank you and God bless.

The people I work with are very racist they see that I out work the rest of the Hispanics and tried to take advantage of my work skills my strength so when they see they couldn't break me with the harder work and harassment they let me

You know I've never been one to discriminate against anyone who has been in prison. Not everybody that goes to jail is a bad person, and some people make bad choices, with that being said I do not understand how is it I cannot find a job. I am qualified to do a multitude of things yet I have been ghosted, replied to week's later or told no thank you. It seems almost feudal to even remotely attempt to try to find a job in an economy that needs you to have an associate's degree to fold clothes. As a New York City resident I have to find other means of work, not to mention that I am not bilingual so labor-intensive jobs are getting much harder to get. So give it your best shot.

I was offered a job as a Welder/Fitter at Siemens Mobilty AG. I took the offer and got all my tests done and passed, drug screen, vision, hearing and soforth. I was told I was to start on 11/4. Now they say 11/11. I have a felony conviction on my record. My question is can they disqualify you for a felony conviction. I thought in CA you can't be turned away for any convictions felony or misdemeanor. Just wondering what everyone thinks.

Burger King in Fort Mohave, AZ didnt hire me because im a bigger girl. He led me on for a month that I would get the job

I went on a interview on 10/29/2019 for block by block in Santa Monica and was told i was wasnt qualified i was interview by a tall skinny black man outside against the wall he gave me very strang looks for no reason im very qualified to pick up trash on the ground i work abm janitor service for two years cleaning the l.a Coliseum but my female cousin went in there and got hired by him and never had a job i think he like her and wanted to have sex with her and he seen me thinking i wanted to the females that work there he cant get cause hes a old man so he ex me out the picture i feel discriminated

Had an interview this year for a state job here in my town. I applied for a painter's position and was able to be interviewed. I meet all the qualifcations that was required. The gentleman interviewing me was the head of the paint department and he said that he was only interviewing one other person and they was on a cruise. I was the first to be interviewed so only two made it through. As he walked me out, some of the guys in the maintenance department stopped us and ask how it went. I knew these guys because of my previous job, inwhich I sold them building materials. One of them contacted me when the job was posted and told me to get my resume turned in, so of course he was curious. The head of the painting department said the ou interview went well but he was unsure of the atmosphere in the department because it was all men and the guys like to joke around and that it sometimes got a little ruff down there. Mu buddy said, well this one here can hold her own, I have seen her in action. She knows how to take up for herself. Needless to say, I recieved a email about 3 weeks later telling me that I did not get the job and it would be reposted. My buddy called me and told me to reapply.... lol, yeah right. That took over a month to get an interview and besides that why?? So I can fill the,, " well we do not discriminate because we have interviewed a woman but her private area disqualified her from being around the "men".

I have started to fill out applications on line and although they can't ask your age they do ask the year you graduated high school. I was in class of 78, anybody want guess my age? Seems wrong...thoughts?
