I was just curious to know how many people on here have experienced some sort of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or was wrongly terminated by an employer?

I too was bullied in the healthcare idustry. I had worked for this particular organization for 11 years. For about 7 of those years, I was appreciated and respected by my Supervisor. Unfortunately, she was unexpectedly forced into resignation, which is when MY nightmare began. Through the years, I was witness to several older, mostly, females, become targets for bullying. Like me, most of them were fired as they aged and began commanding higher salaries. I watched them humilitated and walked out of the organization time and time again. Now my story, I was the director of an HIV clinic. My new male manager, had limited knowledge of how my program operated and wanted to get rid of my program. He was an older doctor in a power position. He intimidated and I felt, harassed me for years prior to firing me. I told everyone I worked with hiw I felt. They, too saw what was happening in the organization, but no one spoke out against it for fear of retaliation. As the stress began destroying my health, I told my doctor what was going on. I even named this individual to my doctor, who also worked for the same organization. I was also on FMLA because my health was failing. Lies were told about me and I was eventually fired. I then told HR and Corporate Compliance what had happened. I went to higher ups but recieved no help. Finally, I took matters into my own hands and filed a complaint with the Division of Human Rights. I worked relentless to provide information to prove my case. Ultimately, I was given a decision of PROBABLE cause based on AGEISM and SEXISM! I wish I had been stronger to go forward with my case but I ended up settleing with the organization, partially because the attorney fees were so expensive, plus, I was exhausted and experiencing PTSD. This was the worst thing I have ever been through and I am still haunted by it daily. I lost a 21 year career, that I loved. My hope is that this organization will take note of what is going on internally and correct it, but I doubt it. I encourage anyone who experiences what they percieve as discrimination to file an official complaint with the state! I feel all of your pain. For me, I will never be the same person I was prior to this experience. Keep fighting the good fight. Regina Brown

So I went to an interview. The interviewer said all my answers were perfect and that they would be in touch. So after learning from one of my friends who works for the company, it was determined that they would not hire me because my exhusband who had just gotten fired created too much drama. The upper management told all of the plant managers that I am unhireable because of the stuff going on with my exhusband. My question is do I have a case for discrimination?

Ok I see a Ton of People posting that they have been asked ilegal questions such as what is your Race, Age etc and some state that the interviewer has told them that they are to Old for a position and other's telling them to sue the company for discrimination and so forth.
Remember I have said it Time and Time again: "Where is your proof"
In our society today there are Millions of people that a company can choose from for the same Job that you are applying for and Yes! Age, Race, and Gender all should not be a factor when applying for a Job: whether you are applying to flip Burgers or applying to be a CEO of a company however THEY ARE!
As a former Recruiter for a "Busy and Fast Paced Video Chain" I will share this much with you. - Did you know that your resume is only the first step of getting you in the door?
Recruiter's don't know you and are going only by the information that you provide on a resume. You are Judged: Infact we all are whether we like it or not, by a few factors.
We are trained to "DIG DEEP" into your Resume and to find flaws that will show us the information that you provided as being false, there are thousands of people applying for jobs today and most resumes are only skimmed by recruiters to see if what they are looking for is on it and if not then the recuriter moves on to the next.
Should you be one of the "Lucky" few that do make it to the door then that is where you are then Judged.
- Has your resume been tailored? Or do you really and Truly have what the company is looking for.
- You are "immediately" Judged once you appear for the interview by 3 factors: Age, Race, Appearance.
- Your resume is then broken down by interview questions to see if what you state on it as being fact or fiction.
Someone that may be applying to flip burgers may not receive the harsh questions as someone that may be applying for a position within a Corporate field however the questions asked are tailored to the companys needs none the less.
When you are going to an Interview you need to: Look the Part, Know what is on your Resume (Word for Word), know what you stated when you applied online (Word for Word), and you "Must" know something about the company inwhich you are applying for!
The number one question in most interviews today is "Tell us what do you know about our company"? If you go in not knowing anything about the company and not being able to offer information then the the interview is nothing more than a waste of time; "Yours and Theirs" .
Therefore: If you get an interview for a Retail postion for example then you should go online and read about that company it's faults and strengths ie: Faults - What you can bring to the table to assist in helping the company, strengths: How and why the company is able to build your Career.
In the Next session: I will cover things such as: Asking Questions, Dress to impress, and the Main question: Am I being discriminate against? Are you overqualified? And should you be tailoring down or Up your Resume.
I truly hope that you are able to take away some usefull information from the above and use it within your next job search. Feel free to send me a message should you have a question that you are not sure about. and Add me as a Contact point should you feel the need.
Best Regards, James Robins

Job where.?Knowing what u r talking about, Age discrimination is alive and well! Teenage managers talking to me disrespectful like they know it all!! I have done ( Life) ups downs - kids all of it u can learn from me at times!! I know people - u know nothing about how to relate to an employee no matter the age - Take That! You will be older one day good luck

As I stroll through the community timeline I see alot of complaints of people not getting hired because of age, race and for having children. This is a form of discrimination. How can one prove it though? This is the sad world we're living in where someone would discriminate you even if you are a professional and have the experience they are looking for...smh.

How to know if company has an unconscious bias about women in technology..

My interview was very awkward.
Interviewer: How may years of experience do you have? Me: 17 Interviewer: "WOW!" Interviewer: "Do you have kids?" Me: "No" Interviewer: "How much did you make at your last job?" Me: "24.50" Interviewer: "What are you?" Me: "What do you mean?" Interviewer: "Are you Filipino?" Me: "my ethnicity is hispanic" Interviewer: "ok, well I'm in a meeting so thanks for coming in"
He was so cold hearted, he shook my hand and just left the room.

I took a job at an optometrist office a couple years ago and was the only male employee. I thought this would be a great opportunity to learn some new skills and I enjoy working with the public overall. Within two months it turned into a nightmare. One of the girls Facebook stalked me and found out that I had several gay friends and that one is HIV+. She proceeded to tell everyone in the office that I was gay and I myself was HIV+, neither of which is true. I went to the business manager and the doctor to file a formal complaint which fell on deaf ears, she was not disciplined nor fired. After another few weeks of basically being ignored and treated like I didn’t exist I quit.

I was employed at taco Bell for almost an year and I informed my G.M Kevin Burner that I would be wearing a skirt to work due my religion so he OK it talked to Mr.thomas and the other big bosses about it so long story short showed up to work with my my skirt on he said God is a white man and that's what you gone have to Go by I looked at him with tears and my eyes and said God is black According to the scriptures and he fired me
