Hey guys, so here recently I was let go with no explanation.. Not even a call or text, they just deactivated my key.. An this usually happens, due to technical error. So i’ll just have security buzz me in like usual, well that day in particular.. The security gaurd was like sorry, can’t do that. I smelt something fishy right then, but laughed it off and jokingly said.. “Okay, i guess i’m fired” He looked away from me, and didn’t respond. So I proceeded to tell him to have a nice day, and I went to call management myself. For by this time, I had been working there for 7 months and had personal numbers of the management. So I sent calls and texts, and till this day (almost month later) still have heard nothing from them. I was “hired on” thru a temp agency, so i went back to the temp agency. An told them about the situation as well.. An they said, they never recieved any complaints.. I was never late nor absent. (which I was not) An I asked the temp place, If i can ever somehow file a discrimination claim. Will they vouch for me, and they have already agreed too. They also agree I have been discriminated. Oh keep in mind, I was the only man of color in the facility.. Other than one supervisor they had, and he quit long before me. An after he quit, this one employee would come up to me and say.. “Hmm, wasn’t there one other black guy workjng here? I wonder why he quit..” I said, “you tell me?” He goes on to say, “i’ll let you fill in the blank... but your men of color, in a small town in indiana..” Things like that happen on a regular, but I always felt like I needed my job.. So I felt as if I couldn’t leave, and I never did. I was let go, with no explanation. An they’re even too coward to contact me back and tell me why, I want advice. What they did to me has traumatized me.. I almost lost my home, because I couldn’t afford to pay for almost anything.. I had to wipe out my savings, and survive on that until I found a new job. An although it was almost a month ago, the psychological effects of it still haunt me. I need help, but I’ll take some advice too. I also consider myself a man of God, so to any of my brothers and sisters reading this.. We have to stay strong, and continue to pray to our father for strength and wisdom.. Please and thank you, God bless.

Why is it that most of the jobs want you to have a valid driver's license but alot of them you won't be driving their company cars??? Is this NOT discrimination? Don't we have enough that eliminates us from certain job positions like education level and back ground checks? Whether or not someone has a valid driver's license isn't important for all jobs. Give me a BREAK....

So Ive been working for taco bell for almost a year and my gm says she wants to give me a promotion but she cant until I get dentures. See I am a victim of demestic violence and she knows the situation due to the inccodent accurring two months after I started working there. Yes I had teeth when I was hired but its not my fault nor did I ask my ex to beat me up so bad causing me to have a broken nose, ruptured sinus and having to have all of my teeth surgically removed. They only pay $8.00 an hour and ive also been lied to about getting a pay raise.

This has been happening numerous of times lately to me. I get an excellent job offer only to lose it after they run a background check. I been working as a server for half a decade and I'm burned out on it but it seems like all that is offered to me is server jobs. I'm college educated in both business and psychology, excellent communicator, manager skills, sales experience, receptionist skills and excel at customer service. Is there anything I can do to get the potential employer to look past that? It is something that occured over 12 years ago a small drug possession charge that still haunts me. I been sober from alcohol for over 7 months and drug free over 5 years. I don't understand why I keep getting beat into the ground over this. Any suggestions to help me would be welcomed. #jobsearch #application #backgroundchecks #discrimination #job #advice #OfficeAssistant #Sales

So early last month I was sick with asthma/bronchitis and I was in the hospital for three to four days/nights getting treatments, taking medicine, whatever. I was in the hospital from June 10th- June 13th. So I got cleared by the doctors on June 13th although I did rest for a few days before I tried to see if I can go back to work at the restaurant. Then I went to the restaurant on June 17th to try to go back to work so the employers/management wouldn't let me back to work & they promised me that they would try to let me to work the next week. So I went back to the restaurant on June 24th to see if they let me back to work and then they're making excuses that they can't let me back to work. So hired new people to take my place and they didn't even say I was fired or still employed. I filed for unemployment on the same day meaning 24th plus I called discrimination lawyers to get their advice to see if I can bring a lawsuit towards the employer and they said that if I got concrete evidence vs them that I could a lawsuit vs them. So I've been out looking for a new job and I did get an interview a couple of days ago and I could be working at a hotel soon because they said that they got to check my background and I get an orientation to start in a week and a half or two weeks. So I'm trying to make ends meet and not let anything discourage me.

Hi folks. I was wondering what can I do about my recent termination. I was a sanitation tech for a major drink distributor in my area. I was contracted to work there. I did my job for 2 and a half years with little to no complaints. None of the people I started with are there any more. They have high turnover rates and most people have quit and a few were fired.

To make a long story short. Our point of contact person was a small Indian guy that was not very friendly or personable towards me or my work crew. He only talked with us if he had to and even then it was through a complaint to my supervisor, btw, who just left too, to go drive trucks after 2 years.

One co worker did nothing every single night. He literally stood around and talked to the beverage company employees he'd befriended, all night. When it was time to do work, he often had none of his job finished and would stay over a couple hours to get caught up. Even though they shift was 10p to 5 am. He'd leave at 7 or 8 and they let him do this but made everyone else leave at 5.

Everyone saw this and management did absolutely nothing about him. He did this for almost 18 months then he just up and quit one day without warning. He'd find a hiding place and go sleep or sleep out in his car.

Anyways, my point of contact was particularly nasty towards me. I could see him coming towards me, like passing in a hallway. he would not acknowledge me in the least, Not even glance my way. no matter how many times I tried to be friendly and greet him, he was always this way with me.

I was the only female with all males. His aloof attitude was similar to the men, but over time he would at least speak to them, me on the other hand. It was always like he had a problem with me. We never had words or anything, he was like this from the beginning.

I told another co worker about this. He was someone I could trust to not go back and say anything. But he was surprised to hear this about this guy. he was assuring me that hes very down to earth likeable and all didn't have a predjudice bone in him.. I told him I never saw that side of him.

I wont say he was predjudice, but he did act like I was beneath him. Or gave off those vibes. Maybe because I was a woman, or a black woman? I don't know

But needless to say, he was the main one who got me fired. He felt like I didn't do my job to his specification. although I did it for two years, the same job, 6 days a week and no complaints before.

Then out of the blue he comes with this. My supervisor told me he had to do something, because since I was contracted to work there, this was the client , he had to do what they wanted. He seemed genuinely sad to do fire me.

Saying he had to remove me from the site, but I was still with the contractor company. He gave me a point of contact to see about another job placement, but since then, I have called this person for the last almost month, he will not answer his phone nor will he return my call

I also heard that employees who stay a year will get a paid vacation week for every year they work and stay. I am owed 2 paid weeks if thats true.

None of the HR will answer the phone nor will they return my call either. HR is 3.5 hours away, so I cant drive over and talk to anyone. They are not local.

My supervisor was put at another site to clean, and he is of no help either.

What can I do about this. There was no employee handbook gave out when Iw as hired. They are a small family owned company so the benefits they did offer were little to none. But there was never any talk of what they did and didn't offer. Everyone played days off by ear. we were ususally told the night of or before about holidays and some were paid but a lot were not.

They will not answer the phone. what can I do. I expect to be working soon, possibly the next week or so. but until then, what can I do about my old company?

3 years ago I was laid-off from my employer as we were purchased by another company and there were many others at the purchasing company doing what I do (Senior Staffing Consultant; Recruiter; Talent Acquisition). Overall, I have over 23 years experience doing this type of work across various industries. I was on my last position for 10 years, and 2 1/2 years at that company as a contract Consultant prior to that. I have been applying for opportunities for the last 3 years and I have only garnered 1 interview that was for a Recruiter position. The position was offered but at the time it was very early in my search and the pay was less than half of what I had been earning. Since then I continuously receive THE LETTER. The one that says, "Thank you for considering [123 Corp.] After careful consideration we have decided to continue our search with those applicants whose experience more closely reflects what we are looking for." Now, I would bet my last dollar that my background, skill set, experiences, and drive will stand up strong next to any other applicant, so the fact that I keep getting THE LETTER makes me question whether it is ageism. Any other thoughts?
