70 yrs old in good shape looking to supplement my income

I have social media marketing experience (a year and a half) and lots of blogging experience, yet I'm continuously turned down for the jobs I want in social media. I fit the requirements, yet employers still turn me down in favor of other candidates, and when I ask for feedback, I'm told it's because they wanted a candidate with more experience (again, I fulfill the minimum requirements for the positions I'm applying for). While I understand that 100%, how exactly am I supposed to gain more experience and actually progress in my career when employers won't hire me? I don't know what to do at this point - any ideas?

I'm 61 yrs old and I'm looking for a part time Receptionist position. I re did my resume so it looked like I'm not so overqualified, but I'm not getting any response.

Of course the main thing employers look at is your experience. And they mean paid experience. Ten years ago after being laid off over and over from tech jobs I took web design and got a certificate. I applied at dozens of companies and although i had made several websites for friends and family that didn't matter, they wanted paid experience only.
Second is age, they prefer to hire between 20 and 30. If you don't have much experience and you are close to 20 some employers may still hire you but if you are in your 40's and all you have is education forget it as what happened to me after i completed the web design training.
Education is important but most employers don't care that much about your education, they want to know how much paid experience you have, not what you can do
Last is your looks. Studies show that employers prefer to hire attractive employees. If you're a guy and your short or a woman and you're overweight this becomes a major disadvantage. Also race is a factor. Most employers want to hire their own race. The way you were born should not matter but since most hiring managers are douche-bags it certainly comes into play when deciding.
Fact is the REAL TRUE US unemployment rate is three times the BS government rate which ONLY counts those collecting benefits. And employers have become so greedy and rotten because they know this and they get ten times as many resume's as compared to before 2008. Yes US employers today are the scum of the planet no doubt about it.

Like a wild animal that has been caged up for 21 years - I am full of energy and eager to rejoin the workforce however leary of doing such at the same time. My past work experience after 21 years doesn't mean anything to people now. So in a lot of ways I'm starting from scratch. On one hand it sucks to say the least, but on the other hand it could work out for the best. Strong will, determination and a positive attitude I know will get me through whatever it is businesses throw my way.

So here is my frustration. I work in a field that requires a person to actually know what they are looking at, in the field. I am an occupational health and safety specialist. There is a lot to being a good safety pro. Your have to be familiar with government regulations, you have to be able to develop training programs so that employees understand those regulations and how they effect them, and then you have to deliver said training materials in an effective manner. Being familiar with human behavior is also very important. All these things you can gain in school in pursuit of a degree. But what you CAN'T gain from the pursuit of a degree is the ability to identify not only physical hazards in the field but being able to identify those human behaviors that put people at risk IN THE FIELD. This is the most important part of an effective safety program. All the training, regulations and "what a book says about how people behave" mean nothing in the occupational health and safety world unless you can put everything into practice IN THE FIELD, and know what you're looking at. That can only come from experience. So tell me why, then, is someone with a bachelors degree in BUSINESS, fresh out of school having only their internship as work experience (unless they tended bar or worked at walmart through school) a more qualified candidate than someone with 14+ years experience in the health and safety industry? I have been searching for new employment for 2 months now and only had 1 interview (with a company full of those who possess little to no experience yet have a degree) which I was turned down in favor of one of those no experience, degreed young people. This happens in every industry in this day and age yet is particularly prevalent in the health and safety business. And then these companies wonder why they are still hurting and in some cases killing employees. It is very frustrating knowing that a companies health and safety program could be much improved if they added some people with experience and stopped focusing on people with a degree and little to no work experience. To me it would appear that these companies care more about being able to say that all their safety pros have a college degree than they do actual worker safety. Especially when all of these things they learned, in the way of occupational health and safety, while obtaining their degree, can be learned through experience in actually performing the job. End Rant

I AM SO GRATEFUL THAT I HAD THE EXPERIENCE TO WORK WITH PEOPLE WHO IN DIRE NEED OF SUPPORT THE SAME WAY I WAS 30 YEARS AGO
