To have a good attitude about work. To have pre-determined knowledge that they will be working with the public and required to have people skills to engage them professionally. That their individual role is valued to the unit as a whole. Leave any drama at home.

My last day. I was the deli manager for five years there. I enjoyed working there so much that on day one I promised 1 years notice. The same for the second and third year. The next two years I had given six months notice four times. My last months were riddled with my direct supervisor and manager engaging in theft and deceptive acts of covering it up. Our hometown store was doing so well that Corporate built us a larger building, and on my last day we needed help up front and neither came out from behind the locked office door to help. I was running the kitchen and a register while also training a new associate on his first day at another register. At the end of my shift, I handed in my name badge and wished the managers good luck.

Spoke softly to them. I brought their heightened state down and offered understanding dialogue to a less tempered one.
