I was convicted of theft with check. I was given 1 year County time. The conviction is 6 years old. I have a tremendous amount of retail experience, but can't even get a part time position. The companies do a background check, and I am excluded. I receive SSI, but want to get off of it. I know there are probably others that need it more. Does anyone know of retail stores in Houston, that hire ex-felons who have retail experience. Blessings

A background check is not going to tell you if someone is going to show up and do a job. People make mistakes some learn some don't. As for me I learned my lesson it's been over 10 years since I last got in trouble which I think is pretty damn good. Plus my record isn't bad no drug charges. Bad check and assault charge, but still its not good enough. You all want to much to pay so little. It's unfair. I'll show up I'll work and work my Ass off but because I made a few mistakes years ago. Not everyone can be perfect.

I want to know why these jobs say oh yea fill out a appilcation and we can hire you... If I say that I would stick to my word.... But how can a felen get a job and keep it if they hold it over you heads... I wish just once people will see us for who we are now not who we was way back when

Just recently released from incarceration. Does anyone know of any good jobs in or around D.C. willing to give a guy a second chance and not hold his past against him?

It's really hard to get a foot in the door when you have a criminal record. I'm trying to turn my life around .Been clean for 25 months. Not a lot of employment background, but I am a hard worker and a fast learner.
