So ready for today's interview! I have another interview next week for the remote graphic design position but I have to work on a design test for that one. In the meanwhile, I've prepped for this interview.

I need help I need advice. I have stage 4 C.O.P.D and I am on oxygen. I had a job I loved but due to health I had to go on disability. I didn't want to stay on disability so I chose a career that I could stay at home and work. I went to Rasmussen for Graphic Design. I was very excited. Well they decided to stop the program leaving me only with an associates degree. In this field you need a bachelors degree. So I tried to continue my education elsewhere but come to find out Rasmussen's Graphic Design program was not at all what it should be. To start at another school I would have to take 8 classes that Rasmussen didn't have before I even start the Bachelors degree. By the time it was all said and done my student loans would come to almost 95 thousand dollars. I couldn't justify that for a job that pays about 45 thousand a year. I have applied for non labor jobs but they all pay less than I get on disability. What can I do to make a decent living while on oxygen?

How do I get a job with one year of experience and college degree?
A year ago I interviewed for a contract position with this internationally known pharmaceutical company for a position as a graphic designer. I have over 25 years of experience and was thrilled that at 52 i was actually asked by a temp agency if I was interested. I had just finished a second long term contract with an equally well known toy company, doing a mostly non creative production work. This job I interviewed for at the pharmaceutical company had a similar job requirements as the contract i had just finished. I felt like i had the perfect recent experience for the job.
During this interview, I was comfortable and felt like my answers were hitting all the right buttons. The interview (with three people from the company, all from the design team) took a strange turn at one point where the team leader stopped, looked at the other 2 guys and said “well, i think now is a good time to tell you our disclaimer”...the other two looked knowingly at him, and he said “This position has absoloutly no creativity, it is strictly flowing in copy into templated layouts and then running it through a stringent government approval process”.
It almost seemed as if they were trying convince me it was not a great job. I told them that all my previous positions in design involved a lot of production work, and that I looked forward to the opportunity to work with the team to get the work done efficiently and accurately. While this was not the best news, i was certainly not going to turn away one of the few job opportunities I had come across, knowing how difficult it is to get an interview at my age.
They seemed impressed with my portfolio which was a mix of production work and creative design work, and perhaps maybe that was why they mentioned that the position had very few creative opportunities. We wrapped uo the interview with a basic skills test for Adobe InDesgin and Illustrator. I completed the Illustrator test and got 90% of the way through the InDesign when they came in and said that i did not need to go any further, even though i really only needed a few minutes more.
After a week, the temp agency recruiter informed me that the company had decided to go with an internally recommended candidate. They said that i did very well during the interview though. I was a bit dissapointed, because this would be a great job as it was 3 miles from my house (my previous contract job was a 90 mile commute that i endured for a year). I was not sure if the job going to an internal recommendation was for real or just Human Resource speak. The only thing i could imagine that i did wrong was that during the InDesign test, I looked up on the internet where to access the style sheets for setting the type as i had not used the program much in the last couple of years. I was not told that I could not use any resources to finish the test, and even to this day i refer to google occasionally for questions about Adobe Illustrator which I have over 20 years of experience using.
With that said, I got a call this week from the same temp agency for what looks like the same position at a reasonable pay rate. The temp agency did have one comment about the job description, stating that the position may require some clean up duties. I am interviewing with the same people, and have to wonder if they remember me from the previous year. I have seen this job pop up 2 other times during then year and applied once online but did not get a call back after i told the temp agency that i had interviewed for this same position 6 month earlier. This time I did not tell the temp agency about the previous interview, and got called back to meet with them next week. This time i plan to bring a more production oriented portfolio with me and emphasize that side of my work history. Should i bring up my previous interview with them? Do I ask what i was lacking from my previous interview? Do i emphasize that I do not mind doing the less creative production side of the job? How do you sell that to someone and make it sound believable?
The truth is I can either do this job that might be boring and earn up to 2.5 times what I make driving for Uber(which is also boring) which is what I have had to resort to in the last 8 months. Any comments are welcome...would love to hear from some HR professionals.

I am very interested in a job opening for a Graphic Designer. I was and am very excited about Graphic Design. I believe my skills, education, and abilities directly qualifies me. I am familiar and knowledgeable with the Adobe Creative Suite; Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat which you outlined as Essential Duties. I have also used programs like Inkscape, Pages, and Publisher, plus more to design and print various materials.
I have a Bachelor's Degree, 2015, in Graphic Design from Colorado State University, and have been searching for either an internship, or a position in which to utilize my design skills for 2 years since graduation. I have worked in a couple of contract art and sign positions, and a lighting design role, as well as freelance projects, but I submit resume after resume and rarely get a callback. I am totally puzzled as to what to do now and how to proceed. Can anyone advise? Thank you for any help!
