Great Southern Driving Academy changed the trajectory of my life by introducing me to a career as a Professional Driver. Up until that point i was a forklift driver/warehouse grunt worker who'd never made over 11 dollars an hour. I was a young man also minded with no real direction or identity career wise and truly in a transitional state upon entering. The enrolled were placed in a hotel for 4 weeks with (!)only paid room and board but would provide lunch for us during school days so one having a stash of money for the occasion is paramount!. Class started with about 20 people but during the schools duration strained down to about 7. You see..i was one of the fortunate student who lived somewhat nearby in the town of Dewy Rose Ga. 3 hours away so i drove home during the weekend to conserve my money. 2 weeks of class room hours consisting of heavy Log Book Training, question, tests and quizzes from the Commercial Drivers handbook coupled with night time memorization of the submitted D.M.Vs General Knowledge,Combination Vehicle and Air Break test questions and answers. You will take the tests and obtain you Class A Permit after the 2 weeks. 1 week is spent learning and memorizing every part of functionality under the hood, in the cab, outside the cab, inside, outside, above and under the trailer as well. The last week is all about Road Driving to and threw parts of Chattanooga Tn., Trailer Backing and listening to random recruiters stopping in with applications ready to get you started. The experience was and still is one that i'm truly honored to have gone threw.
