Taking short, restorative breaks during the day are super important for productivity and mental health. How many breaks is different for everyone (some people have a tough time focusing and don't like breaks, others use break to reboot their brain!), but I know that I like to make sure my lunch time is actually a break (not a fan of lunch meetings). I love doing crosswords or playing a bit of nintendo switch during my break! I'm so excited for Animal Crossing! #break #hobbies #activities #fun

He may cultivate a hobby due to the job.....he may adopt a hobby or more of a Co-worker. ....golf , tennis, fishing, etc. There is no rule which states when a person has to have a particular hobby...he may always love gaming, however there is always room for more!

He may cultivate another hobby due to the job....he find a new Co-worker who has an interesting hobby that he himself adopts. He may find a talent or two he never knew he had!!! Or three or four or more!

So today I was in an interview and it was going GREAT! I mean, me and the hiring manager were talking about all sorts of things. We actually started talking about one of my hobbies, video games. She seemed super interested in learning about it and I was happy to oblige because I love sharing more about my hobbies.

So we start to wrap up because she has a meeting coming up, but as we’re walking back to the elevator she shoots me one last question, “So, do you have any other hobbies?” For some reason I was absolutely blindsided by her question. I tried to think but I couldn’t. My mind was completely blank, so I just replied “No?” in the stupidest voice possible. Her face fell. Then the elevator dinged and I quickly said goodbye and got in.

I’m not kidding, THE MOMENT the elevator doors slid closed about five different hobbies I enjoy that have nothing to do with gaming came flooding into my head. I felt so stupid. I felt like going back in there and screaming “I LIKE OTHER THINGS TOO! I AM A COMPLEX PERSON WITH VARIED INTERESTS!!” But I didn’t feel like getting escorted out by security today so I just silently cursed myself as I walked out of the building (probably for the last time.)

So, moral of the story is I’m always going to come prepared with a few hobbies on deck to throw out there if the question comes around again. Ugh, I can’t believe today.

I get uncomfortable when asked about my hobbies during interviews. I usually make up activities that are in line with the job I’m applying for. How do you deal with that question?

I feel like when I’m not working I’m too tired or don’t have friends to do any hobbies with. I think having hobbies are important but I don’t know what kinds I want to do. What hobbies do you have outside of work? How did you get involved? Any advice is helpful. Thanks!
