"Interview Tip"

Poor body language!

Don’t slouch in your seat if you are capable of sitting up straight or make gestures that might suggest disinterest in either being at the interview or what the interviewer is talking about.

Looking around the room rather than at the interviewer, checking your watch, and avoiding eye contact (unless you are a person who cannot make eye contact) can all make you seem distracted or even apprehensive – not the impression you want to give.

Nervous habits like fiddling with your hair or jewelry should be reined in too. If possible, keep your focus on the tasks at hand. #AWU #disability #jobs #interviewtip

"Interview Tip"

A question NOT to ask during an Interview!

Can I Stay In Touch With You?

This is probably one of the most inappropriate questions to ask during an interview. Most people would ask this question simply to build their network. However, the interviewer will have no idea what your intentions are. It may be perceived as suspicious behavior and take you right out of the running for the job.

Instead, thank them for allowing you to be interviewed and remind them they have your contact details if they need further clarification or information. This expresses your interest in remaining in contact subtly and professionally. #AWU #disability #jobs #interviewtip

"Interview Tip"

A question NOT to ask at the end of your Interview!

Did I Get the Job?

Many people ask this question in jest, while others pose it genuinely. However, this question that can be perceived as presumptuous, unprofessional, and even insecure. Please refrain from asking it.

The interviewer may not be the final decision maker. What is fair to ask in my opinion is "Do I have your support"? If you ask this question, however, be prepared for the interviewer to give you a negative response or no response which is the same. #AWU #disability #jobs #interviewtip

"Interview Tip"

A Question NOT to ask during an Interview!

Do You Do a Background Check?

Most companies will conduct a background check. Hence, you must furnish accurate and verifiable details to potential employers. Unless you’ve lied on your resume or have given questionable references, you shouldn’t be asking this question.

It can be a big red flag to interviewers when you don’t seem confident about your past. They may either think you’ve made grave mistakes or that you’re concealing information. #AWU #disability #interviewtip

"Interview Tip"

Should you ask this question during your Interview?

Does the Job Offer Remote Working?

Be careful about this. Although work-from-home and remote working positions are desirable, companies often want to know that an applicant is dedicated enough to come to a physical workplace.

Additionally, job descriptions often say whether the position can be performed remotely.

Unless it’s a complete dealbreaker for you, it’s better to leave negotiations about the place of work until after an employment contract has been signed. #disability #jobs #interviewtip
