"Interview Tip"

Employers are looking for employees who can switch gears when their plan or idea fails, and own up to their failure afterward.

Adaptability as an in-demand job skill — especially now as artificial intelligence is finding its way into workplaces. Are you Adaptable?

Anyone who's never wrong, or anyone who will never admit they're wrong, is going to be tough to work with. Because everyone's wrong at some point. It is what you do then. Can you then pivot from what you have been doing and figure a way to correct things? Simply put, are you Adaptable?

Here is a question you may be asked during a job interview. "Tell me a story about when you were really sure about something and found out you were completely wrong." Your response should be detailed with facts about how you pivoted and corrected things. Leave emotion out of it. #AWU #disability #interviewtips

"Interview Tip"

Ethical dilemma questions are designed to assess your moral compass and your ability to make sound judgments in challenging situations.

A Common Ethical Dilemma Question:

"Describe a time you witnessed unethical behavior. How did you handle it?"

Use the STAR Method (Situation, Task, Action, Result): Situation:

Clearly describe the context of the situation without revealing overly sensitive information.

Focus on the facts and avoid personal opinions or biases.

Task:

Explain your role in the situation and the ethical dilemma you faced.

Action:

Detail the steps you took to address the situation.

Emphasize your reasoning and the ethical principles that guided your actions.

If you sought guidance from others, mention it. This demonstrates your willingness to seek help and adhere to established protocols.

Result:

Describe the outcome of your actions.

Focus on the positive results, such as maintaining integrity, protecting the organization, or upholding ethical standards.

If the outcome was less than ideal, explain what you learned from the experience.

Key Considerations: Confidentiality Objectivity: Professionalism: Focus on Principles: #AWU #disability #jobs #interviewtips

"Interview Tip" The Water Test

What is a water test. The interviewer puts a pitcher of water with a glass in front of you at the beginning of the interview. What you going to do?

This is a subtle test to see if you are a good fit for the job. If you don’t drink any water it can be interpreted that you lack trust and are a suspicious person.

If you pour a glass and drink it all in 1 or 2 gulps it can be interpreted that you may rush through assignments without paying the appropriate attention to detail.

If you pour a glass and don’t drink any of it, it can be interpreted that you have a trust issue and may not complete your work, or be a difficult hire.

So what is the right way to handle this test according to experts? Pour a glass and take sips and a normal pace which may be in between answers. This can be interpreted as someone who is confident and in control. #AWU #disability #jobs #interviewtips

"Interview Tip"

Be kind, respectful and nice!

When you arrive for an in-person interview, make sure to treat everone you meet from the doorman to the receptionist to administrative assistant to the interviewer or anyone else with respect, and kindness. The interviewer may not be the only one who has a say in who gets hired. #AWU #disability #Interviewtips

"Interview Tip"

Interviewer: What environment do you work best in?

Bad Answer: I need a quiet office with no distractions.

Instead, try something like, “I work best in an environment where collaboration and open communication are encouraged, but I also enjoy having space to focus when necessary.”

This shows you’re flexible but also know how you work best. #AWU #disability #jobs #interviewtips
