"Interview Tip"

Should you or shouldn't you ask the Interviewer the question ‘Is the salary negotiable?’

Of course salary questions are necessary, I would recommend not asking about salary in the first interview. It could be detrimental to you. Instead, send a follow-up email to thank the interviewer for their time and ask them what the next steps are.

As you know, in today's work environment there are usually multiple interviews before an offer is made. If you move on to a later stage, I believe it would then be appropriate to start talking about salary. Timing is key! #AWU #disability #jobs #interviewtip

"Interview Tip "

Question not to ask during an Interview!

What are you looking for in a candidate?/How can I impress you? ‘This can typically be found in the job listing or on the company website and asking the question has become extremely common. Also remenber that the Interviewer has or will speak to multiple candidates, so they’ve heard the familiar go-to questions time and time again.

Your job is to stand out from the crowd. Check out the job listing and pull something specific from the list of responsibilities and centre a question around it. For example, you might ask "Out of the list of responsibilities which one would you say is the most important aspect of the role and something I should be particularly focused on?”‘ #AWU #disability #interview #jobs

Misusing Social Media

We are all on some Social Media platform today. As a person who is looking for work please be keenly aware of what you are saying, liking, responding to, and uploading.

Inappropriate social media use can negatively affect your job search, career and the company’s reputation. Also, never speak negatively about your work on your social media, as you could breach your contract.

You may want to audit your Social Media before any job search. Also, know that a number of employers have Social Media policies that you may want to become familiar with. Simply, pay attention to it. #AWU #disability #jobs

"Job Search"

A recent survey written about in USA Today said that job seekers say unemployment today can be grueling, with about 20% of them without a job for at least six months.

Some were saying it took the @400 applications before they got their job offer. The average is about 200.

The current competition for jobs, any job is intense. So what does this mean?

  1. You need to dedicate at least a couple of hours a day to Search.

  2. Identify specific jobs you are going after.

  3. Tailor your resume and cover letter to the specific job you are applying for. Use specific keywords from the job description in both.

  4. Network

  5. Think outside the box .

  6. Be prepared

This list is not inclusive. Add your tips!
