"Job Search Tip"

"Competitive Salary" When you see this term in a job description Beware!

What does “competitive salary” mean, anyway? Well, think about it. If an employer won’t mention the salary up front when advertising the job, it’s probably low.

Companies that pay well aren’t afraid to brag about it. If you have to guess whether you can afford rent, that’s a red flag. #AWU #disability #jobsearchtips

"Job Description Buzzwords"

"Must Be Willing to Work Under Pressure" this could mean 'We're Always in Chaos'. Read carefully!

This could translate into “We don’t have our act together, and you’ll be constantly cleaning up messes.”

This phrase screams a red flag for burnout. It’s one thing to handle the occasional hump, but if a job already warns you about pressure, you can anticipate that there is poor planning, endless deadlines, and zero support. If they advertise stress in the job description, imagine what they don’t say.

Caution! Your mental health shouldn’t be the price of a paycheck. #AWU #disability #jobsearchtips

"Job Search Tip"

Perform a Targeted Search

Targeting your search is essential. As an example if you are focusing on freelance work, you can target different keywords to expand your results.

In addition to using “freelance” as a search term, consider using other well-known terms, such as “contract work,” “independent contractor,” “1099 worker,” and “contract consultant.”

If you’re looking to move into an employee role again, “contract-to-hire” is also an option.

Similarly, if you are looking for remote work you can target keywords such "remote work", "work from home", "WFH", as another example. #jobsearchtips #AWU #disability #jobs

In today's digital age, job seekers must be vigilant about the increasing number of fake job ads. Scammers are getting more sophisticated, but you can protect yourself by knowing the signs and taking the right steps if you accidentally share personal information. Be cautious of unsolicited offers, extremely high salaries for minimal work, vague job descriptions, immediate job offers without proper vetting, and unprofessional communication. If you share personal information, stay calm and assess what you shared, place a fraud alert with a major credit bureau, change your passwords, monitor your accounts for unusual activity, and report the scam to your bank, credit card company, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Stay safe and vigilant in your job search! Have you ever encountered a suspicious job ad?
