Losing a job is hard, especially after many years. This I know well but we are not useless. I have had to rebuild myself and one valuable lesson I learned is that I was and am an expert in my field and I was able to offer this same knowledge I had already learned to other businesses and managers and make money at doing this. Look deeper. There is probably more you can do. It helps until you get back into your next job or you become your own boss

The company that i worked for decided to close, i was employed with the company for 29 years, been out of work since August 2018, i have signed up with every Temp Agencies that pops up and they all want to send me back to school are a job that so far away i would have to relocate, companies have chosen to take the eady way of hiring, they want you to have experience, what gappen to giving people the opportunity to apply get hired and learn a new trade or skill and we cant figure out why unemployment is so high. So i totally agree with the person because i am also 58 years in age, but the sad thing is we have to continue with our daily lives having difficulty in maintaining your bills and even having food to eat it becomes depressing at times, holding on to your faith it still leave you question God and yourself..

Can somebody help me? When a background check is done for past employment, does every job you ever worked show up? I got laid off in July from an 8 year job, got a pt job for a month then went to another job for a month. I don’t want to put them on my resume because It will look like I can’t keep a job when in reality I’m just looking for my forever job. Also, is there a way to get a free copy of your background check?

Hello everyone my name is Gregorio Montalvo-Smith and I have 17 years in Human Resources. I was recently laid off and I have no problem helping someone who needs the help with their resume. I am pretty good at it. I believe in paying it forward while I'm out here interviewing for my career job. Remember this, I can fix your resume but I can't your attitude. If you are interested and really would like the help, I can help you with your resume and provide you with honest feedback and guidance.

I am 58 and was laid off. I am getting interviews, but no offers. I really think it is my age. Any advise?

Yup, I know what you may feel l. I have a Masters in Occupational Therapy, have spoken at the national and international levels, have been awarded fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association and considered and expert. I was part of Lay offs 2 years ago, I have 28 years experience and have not been able to find a full time job. You wonder why did I work so hard at what I did , it sure is not helping me find a job!!!. It is frustrating.

I just lost my job along with all my coworkers. They gave us 30 minutes to get our belongings as they were closing down for good. I had hit my year mark and loved all the people there. Board of Directors back in Georgia who probably didn't even know our names decided they wanted to move the company out of California. :( Praying for a job closer to home.. I was driving round trip every day 120 miles. ridiculous but I needed a job..

Hello I’m still a bit hurt. I was working at this new place for 3 weeks and this past Monday I was out of the office because my inner ear was bothering me. But this wasn’t the first time I brought it up. Just yesterday I was told it was my last day being laid off. Because the guy that I’ was working with is going in for surgery. What should I do. As many Americans we need a steady income. Right?

I am a care giver and I have been working for a little over a year and this pass Sunday, I was informed that other employees were more valuable than myself and I needed to find something new. Mine while the mother of the 33 year old Autistic son, still has me doing stuff like her laundry and alot of other stuff that's not my job title. She is taking my kindness to get her stuff done. I am so hurt by this because I have gotten to care for the son, like my own son and I know the care isn't going to be when I go. I too am having problems because of my age being 44 years old no one wants a mature woman.. It's just sad.

In my 25 years of work, I have never been laid off. It's going on 3 weeks now but looking for new opportunities to move forward. I was a federal employee and a supervisor for 16 years and left the government to work for the private sector. I have a background as an environmental specialist with a BS degree in Environmental Biology a minor in Geology and recently earned my certification as a Radiation Safety Officer.
