The museum purchased a WWII PT Boat (PT 728) in 2012, it was located in Kingston, New York. I was a member of the crew, the engineer, who brought the boat to Port Clinton, Ohio via the Hudson River and the Erie Canal. The first time I saw the boat was the Saturday evening before we embarked on our journey Sunday morning. We went on a short “get familiar with the boat cruise”, and felt confident we would successfully accomplish our mission. A onetime captain of PT728 accompanied us on trip. Our adventure took 8 days to complete, six (6) were spent traveling the Erie Canal and two (2) crossing Lake Erie, which included a layover in Cleveland, Ohio. Although we had several breakdowns which we were able to correct without outside help and we chose some of the hottest days of that summer, it was a rewarding and most enjoyable adventure. The people who came out to see us through the canal were all gracious we were taking the boat so patrons and visitors to the museum could enjoy this bit of history.
