Is this the Beginning of the End of the brick and mortar retail industry? These stores typically report big profits after the Holidays but now they’re going bust. Online shopping is has completely taken over this industry. I’m not sure how many retail workers there are in the US but I guess it’s in the millions. What are those workers going to do when all of the brick and mortar retail jobs disappear? Well I had a job interview at Macy's yesterday, as soon as me and two other other girls enter the human resource office we are told that the jobs have been filled... I am 28year-old single mother with two daughters and I have 12year work experience and I put in over 59 applications and only one call for a interview.
My 18 year old high school senior was just hired at the local Macy's store as a seasonal employee (her 1st job). She is a part-time employee in the fragrance department and was offered $8.50 per hour. Her manager told her that when she rings up a purchase, she is to find the closest associate and have him/her enter their employee code (not her own) to complete the transaction. I understand she is not being paid commission but how is her manager/store manager going to determine how she is doing in sales if she is not getting any kind of credit for her transactions? Does anyone know how this works or is this just a special thing for small town Macy's stores and low-level supervisors that take advantage of the younger employees who would not know any better?
