Woring by my self was the best way to stay positive while working at miami university. I did work well with others, but there was much gossip and others did not like that I rarely asked others for help, unless I needed help to not injure myself. When you are the person doing the work, you know what has been taken care of! Unless you have solid work relations with your co-worker and trust is not an issue. You can only assume and we know where that leads.

After several abrupt responses to questions, I realized he was upset. I asked if we could talk and when he indicated yes, I invited him to take a walk around campus. We did and he indicated he was upset when I didn't recommend him for a promotion. I indicated that was the second time he had behaved that way and that was the reason. We talked several minutes and I asked why he demonstrated his anger and he indicated I was overlooking his strong points. When I indicated showing angers not appropriate particularly around students; and I would agree to help him correct that behavior.. He thanked me for discussing the matter and agreement to help. When I retired, he was appointed as my replacement.

Teaching and mentoring students

Contacted my mentor earlier. They were out of the country at the time. So, I was hesitant to contact her. Thus, I put myself in limbo for about a week.

I learned how to listen to others experience to better understand circumstances of different people in society and their point of view.
