I was responsible for taxes and all company reports. and my first month on the job I made a mistake on figuring payroll taxes. Fortunately, I was able to catch the mistake before the penalty period expired and I wrote a letter explaining the mistake and sent an additional check to cover the taxes due. After that, I put into place a rule that someone in upper management had to double check my work to insure that never happened again.

It was a day where we had 23" of snow and most of us could not get to work. An employee with a truck came and picked me up because I was responsible for payroll and it was month end so I also had to close out the books and prepare taxes and month end reports.. The employee helped me as best he could and we stayed late into the night to get everything completed on time.

I asked if we could discuss the matter calmly and try to come to an understanding that would lead to a resolution to the problem.

It was a family owned business. I was treated as part of the family. The business was fairly small and I wa in complete charge of the financials from making credit calls, billing, payroll through taxes and compiling reports.
