Customer Service Representative at The Home Depot

On your first day remember to find all the reasons why you might enjoy the job subconsciously, you will need to remind yourself of those things throughout the time you spend working there especially when it gets tough. Gather as much information as they will let you gather. Information that you will need is knowing where the departments are, telephone extension numbers, the names of those that are supervising the customer service desk and the cashiers and the managers names and extensions.

...assuming that asking for a promotion is a one-and-done discussion. It is usually a series of ongoing conversations. You must be patient!

Instead, the best way to approach asking for a promotion/raise is:

  • Think about the position you want and how it aligns with the objectives of your organization and manager.
  • Prepare a memo that clearly outlines your proven track record and provides concrete metrics on the impact you’ve had.
  • Ask your boss for regular feedback and advice on how you can get to the next level.

Have you ever successfully asked for a promotion? #OntheJob #promotion #BeSmart

Much of asking for a raise in pay is about timing and giving evidence based on your performance. So when do you ask?

You could ask in the moment, OR you could schedule time to discuss.

Asking in the moment could catch your boss off guard so they don't have the luxury of preparing objections. And it could also put a sour taste in their mouth since you did it so abruptly.

On the other hand, asking to schedule a meeting gives boss the upper hand, since they can prepare for the conversation and potentially shoot you down with a more reasoned explanation.

Discover 7 expert tips about how to ask for and get a raise, and comment below with how you approach raise requests. #Onthejob #GETthatRAISE

Restaurant General Manager at Taco Bell

I agree with Charlotte. I put in about 5 years. Been in every position from associate to general manager. The hardest things about working at taco bell are; customer satisfaction, no matter what you do, you'll always have someone pissed off at you, and always being short handed because everyone thinks they are better than whatever wage is being offered
