Does it seem that employers are asking for too much in their job requirements? Some employers are asking that a job seeker know certain software(s) to be qualified for the job. The software is so unique that only a small percentage of job seekers will actually know it, and are probably not even living in the same state or city to apply for the job. Not everyone has a bachelor's degree, and not everyone is going to meet the minimum requirement of years in certain job detail areas.
I think some companies just need to hire people who have actually studied for that particular job field regardless of job experience. And help train those individuals further on. Yes, I know there are intern positions, but those positions are limited to only so many students, so not student is able to take advantage of the internships. I know people who got degrees in this or that, but could not find a job due to lack of experience. More companies need to start providing experience instead of looking for it. #unemployment #interview #jobsearch #experience #lackofexperience #NotEmployable

Trying for months to get a job. Lots of Distribution experience and IT, Quality. Been jerked around a few times with promises, or even offers after good interviews, then hear nothing. Yes I’ve followed up. Every interview says my resume is great and why am I applying for a lower position etc... well geniuses, maybe it’s because the higher positions aren’t choosing me and I need a job. I’m not afraid to work a ‘lower’ job. I’m broke now. I have nothing. Everyone says ‘anyone can get a job now’ and it’s not true. The lower level jobs either pay 1/4 of my former pay or they just don’t hire me because of my so called great resume. I’m so done with all of this.

Anyone else here have more than the 10 years of required experience? This can also used against you, making you overqualified, or saying your skills have not been kept up-to-date. You cannot have it both ways, Either they want someone who is management material, or they want someone who will need to be trained.

I've submitted to over 200 jobs, most don't even call me and the ones that do tell me I'm over qualified. Should I remove my masters degree from my resume and my experience that shows I am highly qualified?

Companies that use the term "over qualified" are in for a big surprise someday as someone will challenge them in court to PROVE how that is determined and they can't prove you will leave someday since no one can't predict the future!!! (I was a Corporate Recruiting Director for 35 years and would NEVER let my recruiters use that term!!)

I'm confused. When did careers paying $12-15 an hour require a 4 year or Masters degree? And on top of that 2-10 years experience.
In my recent job searches I'm running into this time and time again. Any input would be appreciated.

I am in a job career that Yes I chose but it’s but 17 years and the company has not given any raises, 17 yrs doing what I love But.... now I really need to feel appreciated and I DONT!!! My statement is regarding over qualified, I have been looking for another job and every single one responded with “Sorry , we feel u are Over Qualified for the position!” What the What???? How??? If I have qualities that can Enhance ur company, y not hire the person that has them??? Help me understand and how to overcome this rage ........

Everytime I get on here it tells me to write a post, I have never had anything that I thought that anyone else would find worthwhile, however I find this worthwhile so maybe someone else will. I keep hearing that it is a workers market today because the job market is almost at full employment, I do not find that to be the case, now it has been 31 years since I was in the market, but I have never been out of work for more than 2 weeks in my entire life, I have worked since I was 11 years old, and the 2 weeks I was out of the job market was my own choice.
Now I am a 54 year old male, have Accounting, Shipping, Warehouse, Retail warehouse, forklift trained (although it has been a while), have had purchasing, cost estimating and 3,1 years of experience. I have been out of work since November 1st, have applied to probably in the area of 150 jobs have had 3 live and 5 phone interviews, and only have one job pending, the rest have either not contacted me or have turned me down without explanation, however the last job that turned me down did say it was not me, it was the person they hired had more experience than I did in the particular program they needed experience in. I don't know if it is agism, not the right training, too experience in too many positions or what the particular reason is, all i know is I am getting frustrated and need to find a job soon, I plan on finishing my career wherever I end up, When I start somewhere I stay, and this will probably be my last stop before I retire, I plan on at least 16 years, health permitting. I am continuing educating myself on LinkedIn Learning and also have 3 CPE's from QuickBooks and am working towards getting certified to do QuickBooks online so maybe I can use that avenue.
Now I don't know if this is the correct post they want me to put on here but here it is, I am looking for any kind of Accounting, Purchasing, or Warehouse job, preferably Accounting, I have my salary set at $17 but will talk to anyone with a job that is a little less, if any of my contacts has a position available or know someone that they can get me in contact with it would be greatly appreciated. Being unemployed is no fun and can bankrupt if it goes on long enough, and I am to that point now, I know you shouldn't show desperation but I am desperate. Thank you for taking the time to read this and like I said ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

I have 13 years of military experience when I got out the low paying jobs told me I was overqualified so I almost starved to death and almost froze to death became homeless.

You're being interviewed for a position but once they see what you made at your last place of work and because it's higher than what they're willing to offer you instantly become "overqualified"?
