There's nothing worse then being overqualified for a job .yes you have the experience yes you has what it takes and yes you have been doing it a lot longer and humble yourself to learn their ways but you want to pay me the minimum is if if this is my first rodeo #overqualified

Greetings All, After I completed my Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), I thought I would stand out as viable human capital. Additionally, I hold a Masters in Public Administration: Health Administration and am a Certified Scrum Master (with many other certifications), with over 20 years professional experience. Since 2017, I have been continually rejected for positions which I am qualified for. People tell me to remove my graduate degrees, but I won't do it. I noticed on LinkedIn that one large company that rejected me over 15 times regularly sources personnel from the Philippines and India for many of these same positions. The average hourly page in the Philippines is $3.65-ish (I researched). How can qualified and well educated US citizens compete with that? #outsourced #antieducation #overqualified

First, I have no desire to “age-proof” my resume - I am a healthy & active almost 64 YO with pandemic-inspired natural white hair AND 40 years of experience, climbing that ladder to an exec-level position with a solid salary.
After the small company I helped launch and grow was recently acquired by private equity, I assisted with the transition and “retired.” I have a few months’ consulting agreement. My goals are more time with family, freedom, less pressure. And much less work. I want to work PT, and the job market is so good that I am not likely taking a job from someone who needs it more.
I have no clue where to go from being VP of a small company where I wore 10 “hats” - HR & Benefits, accounting, contract review & negotiation (inactive attorney), high level customer service, pitched in wherever needed, and since the pandemic, worked and managed productively.
My son suggested I prepare 3 resumes - one for each of my experience areas - (1) legal research, writing, and editing. (2) Human Resources, payroll and benefits admin, (3) bookkeeping, accounting, and local, state and federal business compliance.
Thoughts? I want to make enough to postpone drawing social security until full retirement age - about 3 years out. I do not expect or even want the kind of salary I was making.

I think your son is right: Prepare the three resumes & explain that you have not an inkling to retire soon. I think all places risk losing their older workers to retirement & don't want to invest in them. Sadly, ageism exists. But I'm hoping you beat the odds. Good luck!

Freedom from working FT is awfully nice! If I can afford it...

I was like go from my job on March 31st due to "budget cuts" . I have not been able to find a job since. I have applied for over 75 jobs since then and I get nothing or when I go for a second interview they end up canceling or not setting up a second interview. I feel like my previous job is sabotaging me because I'm suing them. Idk what to do anymore. #overqualified #underqualified #wordsofadvice #anyonehiringa40+yrold

My brother in law went on an interview for a position at his dream company... though the position was a little bit "junior" compared to some of his other work on his resume, he was SO thrilled to be applying for the job.
He crushed the entire interview only to be met with "well, we think you're overqualified."
He wants to write back and try and persuade them into giving him a second interview.
Any thoughts on specific advice I should give him??

Do rejection emails say you are overqualified? Meet Jason, who's been without a job for more than a year. He says "they are so disheartening and especially with this one. This is an entry level job that I have actually done before, but they’re telling me I don’t have the qualifications to do the job."
Is this happening to you? #jobsearch #overqualified

My daughter had the same problem. I say get out while you can

What you need to remember is Human Resources is a REALLY, REALLY STRANGE PLACE. Don't take it personally, and don't take it at face value either. In many cases, they reject you because that was the plan all along.

It means they don't want to or can't pay you what you're worth!

They look at my skin color that's it.Where i live its 1% people of color. They hire someone who worked at the gas station first no medical experience .To work in the E.R

Have you realized that you may be a bit overqualified at your current job? Here are some tips to help you through.
Ask for more responsibilities
There's nothing worse than feeling bored at work. Ask your manager or supervisor for additional duties or responsibilities. You may be surprised with what you are offered to take on! This could help you add some excitement into your days AND give you some resume-boosting experience.Extend a helping hand to fellow coworkers
If you notice that a coworker is always frazzled and overwhelmed with too many tasks, see if you can help out. You may be able to work on new projects and even learn a new skill or two.Network, network, network
Never underestimate the power of making connections. Networking with others - those inside your company, clients, friends of friends, etc. - can help you gain insights into other industries and positions that could help you down the line! You never know who you may meet, you could unwittingly make a career-changing connection!
