
Phoenix was a quality printer with a full service book bindery. The company owner had no problem keeping the factory upgraded with new, State of the Art, equipment. He paid his machine operators $20.00 hourly, to start. Evaluations came twice a year. Everyone that were journey men operators, always got at least $1.75 for yearly increases. I enjoyed the fast pace and high speed ability the new equipment could always produce. I worked from 03/97 till the time the doors had to close. 07/2006. The owner started the company in 1975, and grew it to a 40 million/year business. He had no one to leave the company to. So he sold it for 127 million. A great retirement package. He gave every operator a $10,000 bonus. The very best employment, I was fortunate to have. The internet destroyed much of the print media, There isn't much of the Industry left. I started in the industry in 1983. In 2006 I decided to try to get a business off the ground. I got involved in the HVAC, a commercial pipe insulation venture. Average success and developed a good reputation in the Atlanta down town area. I decided to get away from the continuous inhalation of pink fibers. It's time to start again, With an industry that isn't going to be phased out from technical advancement. I'm only 59 and I have many productive years left. I thought the railroad would be a good opportunity to be productive, with some training. I have a very strong mechanical aptitude and I am easily trainable. Martin J Menapace Sr.
