I have had many jobs & responsibilities in my diverse career, but the last 22 years were for a small single owner company that was like a second family. My only regret was that I stayed until almost 70 years of age instead of using my retirement years to pay attention to my 3 adult children & my 3 grandchildren. Shame on me!!!

I am a retired Dental Hygienist of 45 years. Licensed and registered in Maryland but not in Florida. If I would accept a job interview I only want part time or occasional work. Trying to figure out if I want to continue working in my retirement or just enjoy my independence

After I retired from working as an Executive Assistant, I planned to upgrade my home. So got a job at home depot paint department and learned so much about painting, tile, blinds, carpet, plumbing and electrical. SO glad I took the opportunity to broaden my knowledge and HD was the perfect place to do it. Really enjoyed my time working for them and how well they treat their employees.

Yup it can be a tough road. I'm finally retired but am still interested in working. They all want to see my resume. I don't want to show it! The most common response is 'We can't afford to hire you". That is code for - your too old! Worked full time jobs for nearly 40 years with a nearly perfect record. No one wants a EE that used to make 100 k even to do a part time delivery job.

I have lived in NC for a month and a half now, I have had no success with getting a job. Although I do have a small monthly income from my early retirement from my job. Less than 1000 dollars though, I have also taken custody of my 2 grand daughters. So you know my income is not sufficient. I have been to some interviews but has gotten no response back from anyone. I seriously think there is a lot of age discrimination going on here. But I just say oh well its their loss. Because I have training in alot of areas. I will never beg for a job. I have worked since 15, and am 57 now. I will make a way.

Just retired as Psych Teacher and am not ready to spend my days on the couch in front of the TV, except for sports. Would love to do some substitute teaching or tutoring.

Well, last March 7th I was called into Human Resources in which I was retired. I had worked at this hospital for almost 15 years. I was 63 at that time. My boss retired after 40 years service, and was replaced by Dennis the former director of our respiratory department. Also, a couple other co-workers retired and this was very depressing to me. I usually handle change well but the new boss was somewhat difficult. When one employee wanted to quit working and give her notice, he threatened putting a no rehire in her file. However, before the previous boss left he set the record straight and had the no hire status removed.

I got really depressed and asked for a little time off in which he said no problem. I had been taking Ativan for sleep for a long time and wanted to stop. I should have looked into this because I started having withdrawals. Furthermore, I was scheduled to go back to work February 21st. I do remember calling Dennis, the manager and he told me not to worry he had the March scheduled all filled out and just to wait on a call. Fast forward to March 7th, Human Resources called me in and I couldn’t remember at my conversations with Dennis, the manager. The Ativan withdrawals had affected my memory, and being able to explain myself. She said Charlotte you are not clear as I couldn’t explain what had transpired between myself and the department manger.

So, in the end she said Charlotte you are retired. Then preceded in telling me about, as of that day, my insurance would be stopped etc. I was sick, crushed and no job. Later, that month Dennis, the new manager resigned. My own doctor, said Charlotte this should make you feel better, I told upper management, “GOOD RIDDANCE.” I feel before Dennis left he placed me in the no hire file. I was considered a great employee and even though they thank me for years of service, I can’t even get one day of work. My doctor is trying to help me with this mess, but I don’t really know how to restore my credibility.
