Volunteering at the Salvation Army helped me show my children how fortunate they were having a roof over their heads. Salvation Army is not just for homeless people they are there to help others that are down on their luck and need help. I enjoyed everyday that I was there and I would go back in a heartbeat again.

My most stressful days or days was when we had to close the food bank earlier than usually do to unexpected Confrontations between two other clients. Or had to turn families away because there was no room in overnight stay

Become a volunteer to help your career!

Choose the right organization. Find out how the organization trains and supports volunteers.. Volunteering is a great place to learn new skills and help others. Show up on time and do a great job. Find a program that works around your schedule. Be specific about what days and hours you can volunteer. Volunteers should enjoy their work. Use the skills you have to help others and be open to learn new skills. Be careful to follow directions and know the programs guidelines. Invite friends and family to volunteer with you. Stay involved even when you get a new job.

I want to thank all the non-profit workers that are making a difference. I really want to work with the Salvation Army or another group to help women and children.

Meeting so many different people. At times I felt like a close family member as they divulged things to me. It was the most rewarding experience besides being in the military and helping third world countries.

Volunteering at Salvation Army haven't really changed me in any way differently, one thing I didn't know is that there's so much people out there who needs for instant something as simple as a hot meal. Unfortunately I have fallen on some tough times myself, I am working on getting myself together. It is a privilege when you can give a little of your time to help others because we never know when we will be needing a helping hand.
